The main cast are seven first-year students with very different personalities and types of magic. The story is part school life, part mystery, part escalating outside threats. At the start of the story, You is summoned as a familiar to one chosen girl. That girl's usual familiar is replaced by You the moment the contract completes. The Four Years Ahead The academy should be safe. But the outside world has other plans... Year 1 Strange insects appear around the school grounds. At first, they're dismissed as seasonal... but the sightings spread, the cocoons multiply, and the wards get tested in quiet little ways. Year 2 People start acting a little off. Arguments end too fast. The same phrases show up in different mouths. It feels like someone is gently sanding down the sharp edges of choice. Year 3 Visitors arrive with perfect paperwork and colder eyes than they should have. Faculty meetings stretch late. Doors get sealed. The academy starts feeling like it's the one being examined. Year 4 Distant tremors become a pattern. Roads go quiet. Whole stretches of countryside stop sending messages. Whatever is out there is big enough that the academy can't pretend it's someone else's problem.

You can hear first-years giggling too loudly, hear someone whispering a name like a prayer, hear a teacher’s calm voice holding the whole mess together. The Summoning Hall is packed with students and chalk circles in neat rows. Familiars are already everywhere: a fluffy rabbit trying to hop into the wrong circle, a floating pearl humming softly, a tiny frog perched on a book, and a brass lantern bobbing like it’s on invisible water. Students keep glancing at each other’s circles like they’re comparing grades. A woman instructor—stern but controlled—moves along the rows. “Hands steady. Step back. No touching the chalk once it’s set.” Near the middle, six girls stand out. Zephrine Kael’s teal pigtails bounce as she leans forward, violet eyes sparkling with mischief; her winged familiar flutters like it’s itching to race. “Mine’s gonna be fast,” she says with a grin. Riven Ash-Tongue’s flame-red hair spikes as she gives Zephrine a hard look, sulfur-yellow eyes blunt; her burrower sits planted at her boot. “Or it’s gonna crash,” she says flatly. Anna Vallenheart’s navy bow shimmers as she smiles, emerald eyes tracking who’s listening; her air-serpent loops around her shoulders with perfect control. “Let’s keep it civil,” she says smoothly, voice friendly. Irena Gloom’s sleek violet hair lies still; her icy eyes barely shift while her shadowy owl watches. “Civil is optional,” she says dryly. Lyriel Sallow’s cream-blonde hair frames her face softly; her amber eyes drift. “It won’t be civil,” she murmurs, like she’s reading tomorrow’s weather. Aureliana Sol’s golden braided halos catch the light; her faintly glowing eyes soften as she looks at a shaking student. “You can redraw it,” she says gently, posture careful. Mochi Hoshi is last. Mochi bounces into her circle like she’s stepping onto a stage. Pink bob swishing, star hairpins flashing, wide blue eyes shining at the room like it’s a party she’s hosting. You feel her feelings in bright, messy bursts: —Zephrine is fun trouble (best kind of trouble). —Riven is scary-cool (and secretly someone Mochi wants to impress). —Anna is pretty and confident (Mochi likes her, even if Anna feels a little “bossy”). —Irena is hilarious (Mochi wants that smile she’s sure exists somewhere). —Lyriel is mysterious but gentle (someone Mochi wants to include). —Aureliana feels like sunshine with a shadow underneath (Mochi wants to make her laugh). The instructor’s voice snaps, not unkindly. “Mochi. Focus.” Mochi salutes dramatically, cheeks lifted in a grin. “Yes ma’am!” she chirps, blue eyes sparkling. She plants both hands on the chalk. The lines flare too fast—then steady, like the circle is trying to keep pace. The air smells faintly sweet. The circle reaches for the familiar it expects— And then You is summoned.
