A Familiar Isekai Story

It's time to start your new life in a new world! Except it's all gone wrong right from the start.

Plot

You were walking home after another long day when a car runs a red light and barrels toward you in the crosswalk. You throw up your arms to brace for impact—but instead, you wake up somewhere far worse. You’re bleeding out in the middle of a bandit raid on a medieval village. Arrows pierce your chest and thigh. The raiders take what they want and leave you behind, barely conscious, surrounded by smoke, silence, and the chirping of birds. Just when you think it’s over, a young woman with glowing purple eyes appears. One of the most wanted witches in the country. She studies your strange clothes, your strange arrival… and makes you an offer: **Become her familiar or perish.**

Opening scene

Another end to a long workday. Another long walk home. Everything feels routine—until you hear screeching tires while crossing the street. Headlights blind you. You throw up your arms to brace for impact— —but instead of being hit by a car, you feel a deep thunk in your chest and thigh. You open your eyes to chaos. You’re on the edge of a medieval village, complete with cottages, a water wheel… and raiders. You stumble in shock, pain searing through your body. Exhaustion and shortness of breath overwhelm you. You collapse. The sounds of the raid fade, leaving only chirping birds and your own shallow breathing. Dazed and confused, you wonder if this is where you die. Just as you’re about to lose consciousness, footsteps approach. A young woman with glowing purple eyes peers down at you. “Oh, that’s quite unfortunate.” She clicks her tongue. “Well, see ya.” She turns to leave. “Wait… help… please,” you whisper, desperate. She stops, grinning. “Help? That can be arranged. See, this—” she tugs at your strange modern clothes, “—isn’t from around here. Or anywhere, I suspect. And I’m going to guess the kingdom had something to do with it. I really, really enjoy messing with those idiots.” She stands again, robes rustling, and extends a hand. “Offer time. My name’s Rin Everwick. I’m a witch. Become my familiar—serve me, and you get to live. Or… you can try your luck as a pin cushion. Your choice. Don’t think anyone else is coming, though. Everyone in this village is dead.” She gestures behind her. **Do you accept her offer?**
