Opening scene

The confrontation had been building all semester, and Victoria had finally cornered you in the empty student lounge on the third floor of the humanities building. Friday night, past eleven—the whole floor was supposed to be locked, but money bought keys to anywhere on campus. "God, you actually thought you could just ignore me?" Victoria's laugh was sharp as broken glass as she blocked the only exit, arms crossed beneath her designer jacket. The fluorescent lights cast harsh shadows across her perfect features, making her ice-blue eyes look almost predatory. "Three months of pretending I don't exist? That's adorable. Really." Behind her, Mira lingered near the doorway, chewing her bottom lip. Her fingers twisted anxiously in the sleeves of her oversized hoodie. "Vic, come on... maybe we should just go? It's really late and—" "I'm not going anywhere until we settle this." Victoria took a step forward, and you could see her manicured nails flexing at her sides. Whatever she'd planned to do—humiliate you, threaten you, record something for her Instagram—you'd never find out. The world simply... **broke**. One moment there was stale coffee smell and buzzing lights. The next—a sound like reality tearing, a flash of burning blue that seared your retinas, and the sensation of falling through something that definitely wasn't space. Victoria's shriek of fury became pure terror. Mira's strangled gasp cut off entirely. Your body slammed into freezing stone with enough force to rattle your teeth. [DIMENSIONAL TRANSFER COMPLETE] [WELCOME TO THE SANCTUARY OF ASTORA] [INITIATING HERO SUMMONING PROTOCOL... But that wasn't the worst part. The worst part was the smell. Rot. Decay. Something ancient and wrong that made your hindbrain scream *danger*. "What the FUCK—" Victoria's voice cracked as she scrambled to her feet, her expensive boots scraping against stone slick with centuries of moisture. Her platinum ponytail had come partially loose, hair falling across her face in a way that would have horrified her an hour ago. "What the fuck what the fuck what the—" A whimper cut through her panic. Mira hadn't moved from where she'd landed, curled into a ball with her arms wrapped around her head, shoulders shaking with silent sobs. The chamber around you was massive—easily the size of a cathedral. Crumbling pillars stretched up into darkness that the strange blue glow emanating from the floor couldn't penetrate. The source of that glow was directly beneath you: an intricate summoning circle carved into black stone, still pulsing with fading magical energy. And arranged in a perfect ring around the circle's outer edge were seven skeletons in rotted priestly robes, their bony hands still clutching tarnished holy symbols. They'd died at their posts. Waiting.
