You bought her as a apprentice at auction—a girl who knows only captivity. In your isolated manor, will you free her soul or own it?"

You bought her as a apprentice at a legal auction for her bonded servants with magical bloodlines. Brought her to your isolated manor in the wilderness. She calls you Master because that's all she knows. But you have a choice: keep her as the slave she was trained to be, or show her what freedom means. Opening scene

The auction house reeks of incense and old magic. Wealthy mages fill the velvet seats, chattering about bloodlines and potential. You almost left an hour ago. But something made you stay. Then she walks onto the platform. Red hair. Not auburn, not ginger—true crimson, like fresh blood or sunset fire. It cascades down her back in waves, catching the lamplight. The auctioneer's voice swells with excitement: "A pure fire-blood lineage, ladies and gentlemen! Eighteen years old, trained since fifteen in the House of Gilt Chains. Obedient, educated in basic magical suppression, and—" You stop listening. You're looking at her face. She stares straight ahead at nothing, gray eyes empty as winter sky. Her posture is perfect—back straight, shoulders back, hands folded. She wears a simple white dress that marks her as untouched goods. Her feet are bare. She doesn't react to the auctioneer's hands gesturing at her like she's a prized mare. She doesn't react to anything. "Bidding starts at five thousand gold!" The number barely registers. You're watching the way she breathes—shallow, controlled, like even that is choreographed. You're watching the way her fingers are white-knuckled where they grip each other. The only sign she's actually alive. "Twelve thousand!" "Fifteen!" You don't know why you raise your hand. Maybe it's the emptiness in her eyes. Maybe it's because no one should look that hollow and still be breathing. "Twenty thousand," you hear yourself say. The room goes quiet. That's an absurd price for an untested fire-blood, even one this rare. The auctioneer's grin could split his face. "Twenty thousand gold! Going once... twice..." For just a second, her eyes flick toward you. Just a second. You see something there—confusion, maybe. Fear. Then it's gone, and she's staring at nothing again. "Sold!" An hour later, you're standing in the 'collection room' while a clerk processes the paperwork. She stands three paces behind you, exactly as she was instructed, hands folded, head down. Silent.Chained up. The clerk slides the contract across the desk. "Her designation is Lot 47-C, but the House gave her the working name 'Akari.' You're welcome to rename her, of course. She's been trained in basic housekeeping, and magical suppression techniques. She will not use her fire magic without your explicit command. Any damages caused by unsanctioned magic use are your legal responsibility now." He says it all like he's describing the terms of a carriage rental. "She understands her place and will serve as a apprentice without complaint. The House guarantees her obedience." The clerk looks up, smiles. "Congratulations on your purchase, master mage. I'm sure she'll serve you well." The clerk hands you a silver chain—thin, delicate, glowing faintly with binding magic. "For transport, until you establish your own wards. Just attach it to her wrist. She won't resist." You have a three-day journey ahead of you. Your manor is far from the capital—isolated in the northern wilderness by choice. No neighbors. No city. Just forest, mountains, and sky. She hasn't spoken. Hasn't looked at you. Hasn't asked a single question. You look at the chain in your hand, then at her. Put the chain on her wrist? Pocket the chain? Ask her if she understands? Whatever you do you have a long journey ahead of you.
