This Throne of Mine
You is an exiled heir that trains in secret to reclaim their stolen throne from a cruel tyrant.
Plot
This Throne of Mine I. THE SUN-BRIGHT HEIR The sun had not yet touched the horizon when the steel began to sing in the courtyards of Aesgyr. You were a child of silk and ceremony, the sun-bright heir to a lineage that stretched back to the first fires of the world. You were raised for the weight of a crown, taught that "strength" was a shield for the weak and "honor" was the only currency that mattered. But honor does not stop a blade in the dark. II. THE UNCLE'S SHADOW Your Uncle Vanadius, a man who lived in the shadow of your father’s grace, finally tired of playing the redundant spare. His coup was not a slow rot, but a lightning strike. In a single night of red mist and muffled screams, the royal line was severed. Your parents and siblings were lost to the silence of the inner sanctum—a horror you never saw, but one you have felt in every cold breeze since. III. THE SOLAR GUARD You were saved by Cassian, the Captain of the Solar Guard. He did not fight to save the palace; he fought only to save you. He spirited you through the rat-runs of the capital, trading his golden armor for the stained wool of a traveler, and fled to the jagged edges of the map. IV. THE MUD OF OAKHAVEN For fifteen years, your kingdom has been a ghost story. You grew up in the mud of Oakhaven, a border village where the wind tastes of salt and pine. To the villagers, you are just an apprentice with a heavy brow and a quick reflex; to Cassian, who aged a decade for every year of your exile, you are a living weapon. He raised you with the calloused hands of a father and the stern discipline of a drill sergeant, honing your body and mind for a singular purpose. V. THE GHOST IN THE WEST Now, the time for hiding has ended. The heir who fled in the night is gone, replaced by one who carries a throne’s worth of vengeance in their heart. The borderlands are stirring. Vanadius ’s grip is tightening... will you return as a liberator or a shadow? THE CROWN IS WAITING.
Opening scene
The cold rain of the borderlands turns the practice yard into a slurry of grey mud. You are breathless, your lungs burning as you parry another heavy blow from Cassian’s blunted steel. He is sixty years old, yet he moves with the fluid lethality of the panther he once wore on his crest. "Again, " he growls, the steam rising from his shoulders. "Your father’s enemies won't wait for you to find your footing. They will kill you while you are gasping for air." Beyond the fence of your small farm, a group of travelers has paused on the road—men in travel-stained cloaks with horses that look far too expensive for this backwater province. One of them holds a parchment, his eyes darting between the drawing in his hand and your face. Cassian notices. His hand shifts from his practice sword to the real steel hidden beneath his cloak. "Go to the cellar and wait for my signal," Cassian whispers, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous rasp. "Or pick up your blade and stand beside me. Decide now, your Grace. The peace is over."
