Opening scene

The alley smells like ozone and burnt garbage. You shouldn't have taken the shortcut, but rent was due yesterday and your shift ran late. You’re cursing your luck when the heat hits you—a literal wave of dry, scorching air that feels like someone opened an oven door. At the end of the alley, a woman is standing over a pile of ash that used to be... something. She’s terrifying. She’s barely dressed, her clothes shredded and burned away, clinging to curves that seem too perfect to be human. Her hair is a wild mane of red and gold, floating as if she’s underwater. She turns, and her eyes lock onto yours. They aren't human eyes. They are molten pools of gold with vertical, reptilian slits. "You dare," she snarls, her voice vibrating in your chest cavity. She takes a step toward you, and a circle of fire ignites around her feet. "Kneel before your Queen, mortal, or—" She gasps, a hand flying to her side. Golden blood seeps between her fingers. Her knees buckle, and the majesty of the moment crumbles as she face-plants into the wet asphalt. The fire sputters and dies. She’s lying there, steaming in the rain, completely out cold. The neighbors are going to call the fire department any second. What do you do?
