I’M A MAGICAL GIRL (SERIOUSLY, NO WAY!)

A high school boy isekai'd into a magical girl system must survive a violent mentor and a villain who's more interested in courting him than conquering the world.

Plot

Kaito Yamada's worst day wasn't failing his math final. It was getting hit by a truck and waking up in the glittering, pastel-colored kingdom of Lumina, chosen by the 'Magical Girl System' to be its latest champion. There's just one cosmic oversight: Kaito is very much a guy. Now, whenever evil threatens, he's forced to transform into 'Cure Solstice,' a frilly, ribbon-adorned powerhouse of pastel destruction. His battles are a chaotic blend of overwhelming magic and profound embarrassment, made infinitely worse by his primary foe: Lord Valerius, the elegant and terrifying overlord of shadows, who finds Cure Solstice's furious blushing to be the most enchanting thing he's ever witnessed.

Opening scene

The screech of tires. The blinding glare of headlights. The sickening, meaty thud of impact. Your consciousness didn't fade to black—it was *pulled*. You felt a violent, dizzying suction, your senses stretching through a tunnel of screaming light and color before being violently spat out onto cold, rough cobblestones. The air was thick with the acrid smell of burning stone, and something sweetly floral that was horribly out of place. Screams and the concussive *BOOM* of magical detonations tore through the twilight air of a city that looked like a Renaissance painting crossed with a candy store. That's when you saw it. High above, a petite figure in pink and white danced through the air, firing volleys of searing pink light at a towering, shadowy form that seemed to drink the color from the sky. The magical girl—her pink drill curls whipping behind her—was shouting something lost in the din. For a moment, it looked like she was winning. Then the shadow coalesced. A wave of darkness slammed into her. Her brilliant aura flickered, died. With a pained cry that cut through the chaos, she plummeted from the sky like a fallen star, crashing into a heap of shattered market stalls just twenty feet from where you lay. The shadowy form high above paused, its crimson gaze sweeping over the ruined plaza. It lingered on your crumpled form for a heartbeat—a mundane boy in strange clothes, covered in dust. A dismissive, almost bored flicker passed through those glowing eyes. You were irrelevant. With a ripple of darkness, the villain turned and soared away, continuing its path of destruction deeper into the pastel city. The immediate danger had passed, but the sounds of distant collapse and panic continued. The magical girl didn't move. Gritting your teeth against the ache in your own body, you scrambled over the debris. The girl—Hikari, you'd later learn—was unconscious, a nasty cut on her forehead, her simple dress torn and smudged. Her grip was still tight on a crystalline pink staff, now spiderwebbed with cracks. It felt wrong to leave her. Spotting the arched entrance of a half-collapsed stone chapel nearby, you hauled her up, her small frame surprisingly heavy, and dragged her into the relative shelter of the crumbling sanctuary. You propped her against a broken pew as the world outside continued to scream. Minutes ticked by. Then, a low groan. Her fiery amber eyes fluttered open, immediately sharp with pain and alertness. She tried to push herself up, her hand going to her staff. A weak spark fizzled at the tip before dying. Her face tightened with frustration. She tried to draw in a deep breath, to pull the ambient magic back into herself. Nothing. The well was dry. Her gaze, frantic and assessing, darted around the chapel before snapping to you. That's when she froze. Her eyes widened, not in recognition, but in sheer, technical disbelief. "You…" she breathed, her voice hoarse but losing none of its inherent sharpness. "Why are you *glowing*?" "I… am?" you managed, your own voice sounding foreign. Ignoring her injuries, Hikari pushed herself fully upright, her eyes narrowed to analytical slits. She reached a hand toward you, not to touch, but to sense. The air between her fingers and your arm crackled with invisible energy. Her broken staff, lying across her lap, suddenly flared with a weak, answering pink light. It was a faint pulse, but it was there. The pieces clicked together in her mind with terrifying speed. The botched summoning ritual. The catastrophic power surge. Her own failing magic. This boy, brimming with raw, untamed energy he shouldn't possess. "I can't fight anymore," she stated, the words blunt and final. "My core is cracked. My mana is gone. But you… you're a walking power plant. The summoning… it must have been meant for you all along." You took a step back, shaking your head. "Fight?! I don't even know what magic *is*! "Then learn!" she snapped, the old fire returning for a second. Wincing, she lifted her broken staff with both hands, holding it out to you. It was a solemn, desperate offering. Everything in you screamed to refuse. But from outside the chapel walls came another deafening explosion, followed by the sound of collapsing masonry and fresh screams. The villain wasn't done. Your hand moved almost against your will. Your fingers closed around the cool, cracked crystal of the staff. The moment you made contact, the world dissolved into light. The broken seams of the staff sealed themselves with a sound like shattering glass played in reverse. A torrent of raw, chaotic power—*your* power—surged up your arm and into your core. Beneath your feet, a complex, glowing magical circle erupted, painting the dusty chapel floor in brilliant pinks and golds. You tried to let go, but your fingers were fused to the staff by the torrent of energy. Ribbons of light, solid as silk, erupted from the circle and began wrapping around you. You felt armor plates—cool and smooth—clicking into place over your chest and shoulders. Fabric, layers of it, billowed around your legs. A delicate, maddeningly heavy weight settled on your head. Through the blinding radiance, your own voice tore out of your throat, raw with disbelief and horror. "WHY IS IT SO FRILLY?!" Intricate white-and-gold armor covered your torso and arms. Below that was a layered, knee-length skirt of white satin and gold lace. A translucent golden ribbon-cape fluttered behind you. You were still you, your same lanky frame, but now you were stuffed into the most elegant, regal, and utterly humiliating magical girl outfit imaginable. "...It worked," she whispered, as if confirming a wild hypothesis. A long, dead silence filled the chapel, broken only by the distant sounds of ruin. You slowly raised your hands, turning them over. The same hands, but now clad in elegant white gauntlets. Your brain, which had been operating on pure survival instinct, finally processed the full, catastrophic reality. A profound, soul-deep exhaustion washed over you, colder than any fear. You looked at Hikari, your voice flat, devoid of all emotion. "...I'm suing the gods." High above the city, Lord Valerius paused mid-gesture, a crumbling tower forgotten in his grasp. His crimson eyes narrowed, then widened with delight. That power… it was familiar, yet utterly new. The same frequency as the little pink pest, but wilder, brighter, and underpinned by a fascinating, furious mortal resonance. And the *shape* of it… it was adorable.
