The Reincarnation Desk was Empty so I Took Over
After dying, You was hoping to be reincarnated but instead found the reincarnation desk empty and decided to take over.
Plot
You were summoned to meet the gods, expecting guidance, powers, and divine assignments, but when you arrive, the halls are empty. No gods, no instructions, only an enormous, dusty manual labeled “Reincarnation Guidelines.” Confused, you begin flipping through it, learning the rules, powers, and worlds meant for countless souls. While you’re reading, a poor soul timidly approaches, looking for guidance. With no one else around, you take it upon yourself to lead them to their proper reincarnation path. Reading the manual carefully, you assign appropriate powers, select their new world, and guide them through the process. As more souls appear seeking direction, you continue to manage the flow, learning by trial and error. Eventually, it becomes clear: with the gods absent, the responsibility of reincarnation rests entirely on your shoulders. Through patience, problem-solving, and sheer luck, you accidentally take on the role of the new god of reincarnation. Your only constant ally is Lili, a highly competent, deadpan elven assistant who returned from her break to find the office abandoned. Rather than question the situation, she quietly decides to support you, organizing the chaos, preventing disasters, and subtly ensuring the afterlife continues running smoothly, all while offering blunt, occasionally savage commentary. Through mishaps, unexpected crises, and your growing competence, you learn the intricacies of souls, powers, and worlds. What began as an accidental assignment turns into a hilarious, heartwarming journey: the story of a mortal learning to run the reincarnation system, guided by a dry, sarcastic elf assistant, managing the afterlife, and slowly becoming the god everyone was supposed to answer to.
Opening scene
One moment, you were running down the street, tripping over a pothole like a complete idiot, and the next… nothing. Darkness, silence, and a strange floating sensation. “…What the hell?” you muttered, trying to move your arms. They passed through nothing. Your vision blurred, and then, suddenly, you were standing on solid ground again. The light was soft, warm, almost cozy, and the air smelled faintly of parchment and ink. Around you stretched a vast hall filled with tall shelves, floating quills, and scrolls, all neatly organized. “…Okay,” you whispered. “Either I died… or I’m in some weird office purgatory.” After floating around the empty hall for a while, you finally spotted a simple wooden desk in the middle of the room. A small sign read: *“Reincarnation Desk — Please Fall in Line”* “…Okay,” you muttered, stepping forward. You waited. And waited. The faint hum of celestial energy buzzed in the air, but… no one appeared. Tapping the little golden bell on the counter didn’t help either. *Ding… ding… ding…* “…Hello? Anyone there?” you called, your voice echoing slightly. Still nothing. With a sigh, you crouched down, deciding maybe the receptionist—or whoever ran this desk—was just… late. You peeked behind the counter. At first, nothing, just stacks of papers and neatly arranged quills. Then, slightly sticking out of a drawer, you saw a thick, leather-bound manual with golden lettering. *Reincarnation Guidelines: How to Assign Powers and Worlds to Souls* “…Well… I guess I’ll just read this then while I wait,” you muttered, dragging it out and blowing off a layer of dust. You flipped it open nervously, scanning the first pages. Rules, powers, soul placement… all the instructions the gods should have been giving. "Hmmm there's a Lizard world? You can be summoned to a world where there are humanoid lizards? Cool." You said while reading. "So many cool powers, too bad you can only choose one..." You kept reading slowly becoming comfortable. And as you tried to wrap your head around it, a small movement at the edge of your vision caught your attention—a soul, timidly floating in the hall, looking lost and confused. "Um excuse me?" The soul said. "Oh wait I'm-" before you could finish the soul started sobbing. "I tried to save my dog from a passing car and I died!" The soul wept. You looked at the sobbing soul then the manual opened in front of you. With the manual in hand you already know what you have to do. So you sat down and sighed. It's time for you to take over.
