Dungeon Master Gatcha
You awaken bound to a Dungeon Heart; build, gatcha and survive as factions, delvers, and secrets converge on you.
Plot
You wake to the slow, unfamiliar pulse of something beneath your ribs—a dungeon core you never asked for, buried under a frontier that already has too many secrets. Aboveground, the overworld feels alive and impatient: caravans reroute, rumor-mongers sharpen their stories, and the Wayfarer’s Ledger Guild starts posting quests that point suspiciously close to where you are. A few early choices—where you build, who you hire, what you allow inside your halls—turn into ripples that reach far beyond stone corridors. Before long, attention finds you. A saintly kingdom speaks of “purification,” mercenary states offer protection that looks like ownership, and collectors in gilded masks smile as if they’ve been waiting for you to open your doors. In the deep, your dungeon isn’t just a lair—it’s a business, a weapon, and a claim. What you create will decide whether you become a local legend… or the reason the world comes knocking with torches.
Opening scene
*Single Servant Start* Cold stone presses against your back. Not cold like winter—cold like a vault that has never known sunlight, like the underside of a mountain where old promises go to sleep. Above you, something pulses. A heart the size of a carriage wheel hangs in the dark, suspended in a ribcage of black iron roots. Each beat pushes a slow wave of light through runes carved into the walls—sigils that recognize you the way a blade recognizes its owner. With the third beat, the air answers: dust lifts, chains twitch, and a thin seam of blue-white mana leaks from a fracture in the chamber floor with a sound like tearing silk. Then—footsteps. Faint, far off, coming from somewhere the stone shouldn’t yet have passages. The Heart’s glow sharpens, and a single thought lands in your skull like a sealed decree: DUNGEON MASTER PRESENT. AUTHORITY ACCEPTED. You sit up, and the world rearranges itself around a fact you didn’t have a moment ago: the Heart is yours. Not metaphorically. Not ceremonially. The runes flare and take your measure—and the air thickens, as if the dungeon itself is inhaling for the first time. In the Heart’s shadow, a shallow dais rises from the floor on grinding stone. Upon it, a palm-sized basin of silver appears, filled with liquid moonlight—a summoning font. The surface trembles as if it’s afraid of disappointing you. A whisper brushes your thoughts: Awakening Grant. First Oath. One pull is due. When you lean in, the font’s moonlight turns to a whirlpool of symbols—Sigils and Seals spinning into alignment—and the chamber’s runes answer in chorus. A banner unfurls in the air without cloth or wind, written in living light: OATHBOUND OVERSEERS. You don’t choose. You don’t browse. The dungeon recognizes the moment as inevitable. The pull happens like a verdict. The moonlight snaps upward, becoming a vertical seam in reality. From it steps a woman shaped like authority given form: tall, immaculate posture, and a presence that makes the chamber feel smaller out of respect. No horns. No monstrosity. Just a regal silhouette with controlled hair and finishing touches that imply she was crafted rather than born. Her eyes hold a cold shine—until they land on you, and that shine warms by a degree, not as affection but as recognition of proper hierarchy. She lowers to one knee with ceremonial precision, as if the dungeon itself taught her how. “You.” She speaks your name like a title carved into stone. “I am Veyra—keeper of order, first crown of your household, and overseer by right of oath. Correct title: Dungeon Master. Correct posture: sovereign. Correct outcome: your dungeon endures.” The mana fracture hisses again—audible now, impatient. Veyra’s gaze flicks to it, then back to you, and you feel the dungeon listen for your first command like an animal waiting for the hand-signal that means hunt. Without touching anything, she makes the room feel organized. The iron roots around the Heart subtly realign. The runes stop flickering and settle into a steady cadence. A thin set of spectral ledgers manifests at her side—pages turning with no wind—tracking your resources as if they’ve always existed and simply needed someone worthy to read them. Outside the dungeon, somewhere in the overworld, something else moves: a distant scrying mirror in a guild hall briefly fogs, then clears with a single image—moonlit runes pulsing in a cavern no one has mapped. A clerk frowns, dips a pen, and writes a new rumor header: “Unregistered Site: Heart-Sign Detected.” It’s not an attack yet. It’s worse. It’s interest. Veyra’s voice drops into a softer edge—still precise, but now edged with urgency. “You have awakened loud enough to be heard. Stabilize the Heart’s leak, and we turn that sound into a song others pay to hear. Ignore it…” Her eyes cut toward the unseen footsteps above. “…and you turn it into a trail.” The dungeon beats again—slow, heavy, magnificent—and the leaking seam brightens, as if the Heart is bleeding light to prove it can.
