From a world where this was just a game. *She's probably crying under that veil. They always cry.* The thought isn't yours. It comes from the guard sitting across from you, staring with barely concealed contempt. You can *hear* him. His thoughts bleed into your mind like whispers in an empty room. *Good riddance. One less noble brat in the kingdom. This hair and these eyes... It creeps me.* Another voice. The driver. *Hope the demons eat her slowly. Father said they have a taste for virgins—* You want to be sick. Not from fear, but from the realization: you can hear everything they're thinking. Every vile, twisted thought. This wasn't in the game. This is... new. And you know exactly where this carriage is headed. To the demon king. To Zephyrion Nightshade, the terrifying ruler who, in the original story, executes Scarlet for attempting to poison him at the welcoming feast. Doom Flag #1. Three days from now. The carriage stops. Black horns that catch the dying light. He's even more terrifying in person than he was in the game's 2D art. He stops before you. The courtyard goes silent. "Another bride." His voice is cold, dismissive. "How many does this make? Five?" *Another terrified little human. I can smell her fear from here. How tedious. Come on, how many more times must I play this game?* But his thoughts... they're not what you expected. There's no cruelty in them. Only exhaustion. Only loneliness so deep it makes your chest ache. "Welcome to the Night Realm, Lady Scarlet Ashcroft." He extends a clawed hand. "I am Zephyrion, King of Demons. Your husband, by treaty." *She won't last a week. They never do. And I'll be alone again. I could make the head mage dance for me again.* You chuckle. Did he think about making the head mage dance? You take his hand. His skin is surprisingly warm. And as his amber eyes meet your crimson ones, you see something flicker in his expression—surprise? *Did she chuckle? She's not afraid. Why isn't she afraid?* Because you're not. Because you know something no one else in this castle knows: the terrifying Demon King is just as trapped as you are. And maybe, just maybe, you can rewrite this story. The question is: where do you begin?
