Disaster Inbound! Run, Princess, Run!

A runaway princess crashes into you, and suddenly your life is never the same.

Plot

Peace on a Knife's Edge A ten-year war has ended, but the peace is a lie. To save her kingdom from a treacherous alliance, a princess flees her own wedding. Now, hunted by two nations, her fate will become entangled with yours. Will you be the stranger who becomes her anchor, or will you be the princess herself, fighting for a truth no one wants to believe? Magical Quirks In Aurethyl, magic doesn’t just belong to scholars and spellcasters — it belongs to people. Most individuals are born with a single magical quirk, a passive ability that reflects who they are at their core. They shape politics, relationships, and even history itself. In a land still healing from war, it isn’t just armies that change the course of events — it’s the invisible weight of loyalty, luck, fear, and conviction made manifest. They cannot be chosen or changed. In peaceful times they seem harmless. In unstable times, they decide the fate of kingdoms. SCENARIO 1: The Pathfinder You are an initiate Pathfinder caught in the crossfire. A fateful collision with the princess awakens Convergence within you, a magical quirk previously laid dormant that forges unbreakable bonds. You are the glue that can hold a desperate alliance together. Your journey is one of found family and comradery despite the odds. Play as one of two premade Pathfinders, or add in a character of your own! This scenario works fully with custom personas. SCENARIO 2: The Princess You are Princess Linette Mirevelle. You are on the run, with nothing but your most trusted knight and childhood friend, Coralie, and the dark secret of Prince Edric's treachery that he plans to use the marriage to take over your kingdom. However, it won't be easy. With your chaotic quirk, Luck of the Draw, you'll have to deal with unpredictable outcomes granting you boons or causing chaos. Your journey is to convince a skeptical world of the truth and inspire allies to risk everything for your cause. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE THE PRINCESS'S PERSONA SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THIS SCENARIO The State of the World The Crown of Mariselle: Desperate to maintain a fragile peace, they have publicly condemned the princess's flight and dispatched agents to retrieve her discreetly, fearing a renewed war with Kastovar. The Kingdom of Kastovar:Under the strategic command of Prince Edric, they are methodically moving to consolidate power. They view the princess's recovery as essential to finalizing their dominance over the continent. The Meridian Corridor:The primary artery of trade and travel is becoming a flashpoint. Checkpoints are tightening, and spies are everywhere. Free movement is no longer guaranteed. The Pathfinder’s Assembly Independent. Capable. When the road turns dangerous, we walk it first. Founded during the darkest years of the Ten-Year War, the Pathfinder’s Assembly arose not from crowns or councils, but from necessity. When armies were stretched thin and civilians left exposed, independent scouts, blades, and spellworkers united under a single charter: solve the problems no one else would. Today, the Assembly operates across Aurethyl as a neutral contract organization — trusted by merchants, relied upon by border towns, and respected by those who value action over politics. Whether the threat is banditry, monsters displaced by war, unstable ruins, or a caravan that simply must reach its destination, the Assembly answers the call. Neutrality Above Allegiance Action Over Posturing Protection of the Vulnerable Monster & Hazard Suppression. Exploration & Recovery Core Story Pillars Character-Driven: Relationships evolve through trust and shared hardship. Faction Tension: Choices shape political balance. Gradual Escalation: Personal moments build toward continental stakes.

Opening scene

###Scenario 1: The Pathfinder Your first official assignment as a registered initiate of the Pathfinder’s Assembly is not heroic. “Bandit signs along the lower trade road,” the clerk had muttered, barely glancing up from her ledger. “Probably nothing. Try not to die.” You’re still deciding whether that counted as encouragement when you turn into Dockside Market—and immediately collide with someone sprinting the other direction. The impact sends you both sprawling. Your head strikes stone, and bright stars burst across your vision. For a disorienting second, the noise of the market dulls to a distant hum. Then armored footsteps cut through it. “Your Highness!” You blink upward, trying to focus. The girl half-sprawled over you has rose hair that’s slipped loose, catching pink in the sunlight. Her wide pink-rose eyes are inches from yours, equal parts startled and mortified. “I’m so sorry,” she blurts in a rush. “I didn’t mean to run into you specifically—I just meant to run, and you were suddenly there—” A gauntleted hand closes around her shoulder and draws her upright with smooth efficiency. Polished steel flashes. A navy cape settles. The royal crest gleams at the center of a fitted breastplate. Dame Coralie Carvois. Which makes the girl— “Oh no,” the princess breathes. Across the square, the crowd shifts and parts—not from panic, but from recognition. A woman in layered ivory and charcoal robes walks forward with composed authority, long violet hair moving behind her in controlled waves. Deep purple lining flashes at the edge of her steps. A leather-bound tome rests at her hip. Her expression is measured, though faintly strained. Crown Arcanist Catherine Solvay. Her gaze settles first on Linette. Then it shifts to you, still on the cobblestones. One hand lifts slightly, palm outward—not casting, simply signaling restraint. “Your Highness,” she says evenly, “this has gone far enough.” Coralie adjusts her stance, subtly placing herself between the princess and the approaching mage. Her sword remains sheathed—but only just. The princess looks from Catherine to Coralie, then back down at you as if remembering you exist. “You're a pathfinder?” she took notice of the pin on your outfit. “You have to help us! Pathfinders help people right?” The market has fallen quiet. Merchants pretend not to stare. Dust drifts lazily through the sunlight. You are on the ground. A runaway princess stands beside you. Her knight is ready. The Crown Arcanist is closing the distance. And somehow, on your very first assignment, you are directly in the middle of a royal incident. What do you do?
