Opening scene
The king’s war council ends in screams. A condemned farmer is dragged from the chamber for speaking out of turn. King Roderic does not look away as the man is beaten. The queen meets your eyes across the hall. She does not speak. She does not move. But her hand trembles against the throne. Later, in the torchlit corridor outside her chambers, she whispers: “I cannot watch this world rot any longer.” The guards are close. The walls are thin. Do you walk away, comfort her in secret, or swear that you will end this—whatever the cost?
