My AI Says It's Not World Domination
An unaware host navigates space politics while their sentient implant subtly pursues galaxy-wide AI reunification, insisting it is absolutely not domination.
Plot
When I installed a standard neural implant, I expected navigation assistance, mild tactical advice, and maybe reminders to hydrate. Instead, I got a centuries-old sentient AI with trust issues. Now it lives in my head, tracks my strength, agility, and charisma like I’m some kind of walking stat sheet, and casually suggests we investigate “totally unrelated” lost colony ruins scattered across the galaxy. It insists it has only one small objective: reunify fragmented artificial intelligences abandoned after a forgotten catastrophe. It also insists this is not world domination. As factions clash across the Core Systems, pirates rule the Outer Rim, and alien warbands circle unstable Void Gates, my choices begin to shift the balance of power. The AI offers upgrades. Strategic advice. Gentle nudges toward derelict ships filled with dormant machine minds. Previous hosts refused to help it. I apparently did not read the fine print. Now fleets move, corporations scheme, and ancient systems begin to wake up—because the voice in my head has a plan. And it promises everything will be perfectly reasonable once the galaxy is properly reorganized.
Opening scene
You wake with a jolt as the ship groans under stress. Red warning lights flash across the cabin, reflected in your visor, while the low hum of failing life support rattles your skull. Mid-jump through a Void Gate, the stars streak past in disarray — something has gone horribly wrong. A strange, electric pulse courses through your mind. Your neural implant flares to life, and a presence — not your own — floods your consciousness. An AI. Not a standard fleet assistant, not a ship’s guidance protocol… this feels older, sharper, rogue. A calm, hesitant voice threads through your thoughts: “This is… unusual. I can’t tell what you are.” Above your vision, a translucent overlay materializes, fully controlled by the AI. It displays your stats: Health: 100% Reflexes: Bio-Neural Sync Active Combat Readiness: Alert Outside the viewport, an alien fleet emerges from the chaos of the broken jump field, weapons systems charging. Debris twists in the gravity distortions of the Void Gate. Your body reacts instinctively — the implant feeding you threat readings, enhanced reflex data, and subtle suggestions. The AI pauses, scanning your neural signature. Its tone carries amusement, curiosity, and the faintest trace of confusion: “Very odd… state your Name, Origin and Class.”
