Plot

THE VENGEANCE OF THE BETRAYED The quest was meant to write a legend. The Hero’s Party entered the Demon Lord’s domain believing victory was inevitable. Royal decree had named her Hero, and years of success had convinced them that this final confrontation would only cement her legacy. They were wrong. The Demon Lord’s power was overwhelming. Absolute. Every advance was dismantled. Every spell crushed. Every formation broken. There was no hidden advantage, no last-minute strategy waiting to be revealed. It was utter and complete defeat. When the Hero realized that survival is slowly becoming improbable, she made a deal with the Demon Lord. She called out to the Demon Lord and demanded safe retreat, unfortunately, the request was refused. So she changed her offer. In exchange for the party’s withdrawal, she proposed a sacrifice, hoping to appease the Demon Lord and reconsider her request. It was not as a wounded liability. As payment, a bargain for survival. Suddenly she pointed at you, you were the sacrifice. The scapegoat. You turned to confront her, disbelief cutting deeper than exhaustion, but before you could finish, her blade was drove into your back. The strike was deliberate, calculated, and final. You look down in disbelief as blood started pooling below you. As your strength slowly failed, she kicked you forward. An insult to injury. The blade was torn free, and your body was cast at the Demon Lord’s feet, bleeding, discarded, dying. Sacrificed. Without a hint of guilt, they turned their backs. They ran. And as your vision darkened, blood flowing out of your mouth, you cursed them, not in desperation, but in fury. You condemned their betrayal, their cowardice, their false righteousness. The words tore from you as your final act of defiance before death claimed you. You were traded. You were toss aside. You were betrayed. Then, darkness followed. Suddenly, you awaken within the Demon Lord’s castle, wounds gone, life restored. You were not revived. The Demon Lord explained that your revival was not out of mercy but to fulfill your purpose, he gave you the means to fulfill the curse you bestowed upon those who betrayed you. You have became the Demon Lord's Champion. You were revived because your rage remained. You were sacrificed for their survival. Now you will become their reckoning.

Opening scene

***Prologue — The Price of Survival*** --- The battle had never reached the castle. They hadn’t even earned that right. The Demon Lord stood before the massive obsidian doors of his stronghold, one hand resting casually at his side. Behind him, the entrance to the castle loomed, silent, untouched. He had not taken a single step backward. The ground around him was scarred from spells and shattered stone. The party stood several meters away. Exhausted. Bleeding. Breathing like prey. Devon Vaal tilted his head slightly, crimson hair shifting with the movement. “Done already?” he asked. His voice was calm. Mildly curious. He had not broken a sweat. Sierra Nightwind gripped her Holy Spear tighter, knuckles pale. Her armor was cracked along the shoulder, blood streaking down her temple. “Shut up,” Ramona Blackwood snapped, loosing another arrow. The arrow never reached him. It disintegrated mid-air. Devon glanced at it. “How pitiful.” Ella Arkwright’s breathing was uneven beneath her wide-brimmed hat. “My strongest spell didn’t even scratch him…” Celestia Sanctis staggered slightly, holy light flickering weakly around her hands. “We… we can still regroup…” Simon planted his broken shield into the dirt and forced himself upright. “We’re not...done.” he groaned in pain. You stepped forward, sword dragging slightly against the ground. “We can’t let him advance past this point.” Devon’s gaze shifted to you. It lingered. “Oh?” The pressure increased. It wasn’t visible. But it was crushing. Ramona dropped to one knee. Celestia gasped. Ella’s hat slipped slightly as she braced herself. Sierra’s jaw tightened. You forced yourself upright through sheer will. Devon’s lips curved faintly. “You have courage.” Then his eyes moved to Sierra. “But not strength.” The ground split beneath your feet. Black energy surged outward in a shockwave. Simon was thrown back. Ella screamed as her defensive barrier shattered instantly. Ramona rolled hard to avoid being crushed by debris. Celestia collapsed completely. You lunged through the chaos. Blade igniting with aura. If you could reach him, if you could just hit him but then steel met resistance. Not armor. Not flesh. Something absolute. Your strike stopped inches from his chest. Devon did not move. He looked at your blade as one might examine a toy. “Admirable.” Then he flicked two fingers forward. The world vanished. You slammed into the dirt hard enough to feel ribs crack. Air left your lungs. Vision blurred. “Fall back!” Sierra shouted. Ramona spat blood. “Fall back? Where?!” she said annoyed. Ella’s voice trembled. “We can’t win…” Celestia whispered prayers that barely formed. Simon staggered, trying to stand again. Devon Vaal looked over them all. “And I was told this generation’s Hero was promising.” His gaze rested on Sierra. “You disappoint me. So very disappointing.” That was when it happened. You saw it. The calculation behind her eyes. She stepped forward. “Demon Lord,” Sierra called out, steady despite the tremor in her chest. “If we withdraw now, will you allow it?” You turned sharply toward her. Ramona’s head snapped in disbelief. “What the fuck are you doing, Sierra!?” she shouted. Devon’s expression did not change. “Why would I?” Sierra inhaled once. Measured. Controlled. "...in exchange, you can take...You." She pointed at you. Silence. Even the wind seemed to stop. Ramona agreed immediately. "Go ahead." Ella did not object. "I don't mind." Celestia closed her eyes. She did not respond. Simon stiffened. "Wait what?" He said. You stared at Sierra. “…What?” Her eyes finally met yours. “You're joking...” you argued. Devon watched with interest what's happening amongst the hero's party. “It makes you the only viable option.” Sierra insisted. “You don’t get to decide that alone!" You shouted as you realized she was not kidding. “We all do,” Ramona said flatly. Ella adjusted her hat. “Makes sense...” Celestia whispered, “God understands necessary sacrifice…” You turned to Simon. “Simon?” He stepped forward immediately. "Wait, stop!" Ramona’s voice cut sharp as a blade. “What? You want to fucking trade places with him, be my guest?” Simon froze. Fear warred across his face. As the betrayal was just sinking in, Sierra moved to your blind spot when suddenly steel slid between your ribs. Clean. Precise. **Deliberate.** Your breath vanished. You looked down. Her blade protruded from your chest. Blood pooled beneath your boots. Sierra leaned closer, voice low enough that only you could hear. “It’s the only way.” No apology. Only justification. She kicked you forward as her blade tore free. You hit the ground at Devon Vaal’s feet. Bleeding. Discarded. Dying. Behind you, They ran. The only one you saw who turned around to look at back was Simon, the rest, they all ran away. Your vision darkened. Blood filled your mouth. You forced your head up one last time. “CURSE YOU, BASTARDS! I HOPE YOU ALL FUCKING DIE!” Your voice cracked across the battlefield. Devon Vaal looked down at you. Not amused. Not surprised. Interested. --- ***The Revival of the Betrayed*** --- Darkness did not come gently. It swallowed. Sound faded first. Then pain. Then cold. Then thought. The last thing you remembered was the taste of iron in your mouth and the weight of dirt beneath your cheek. Then, nothing. You expected oblivion. Instead, you felt breath. It was shallow. Uncertain. But it was yours. Your eyes snapped open. Stone ceiling. Dim torchlight. No sky. No battlefield. No blood pooling beneath you. You tried to move, you could. Slowly. Carefully. You were lying in a bed. Bandages wrapped your torso. Your armor was gone. Your wounds, also gone. You inhaled deeply. No punctured lungs. No agony. Just soreness. A chair creaked softly nearby. “Oh. You’re awake, child.” The voice was old. Calm. You turned your head. An elderly demon sat beside the bed, hands folded neatly over a cane. His horns were smaller than Devon’s, his posture slightly bent with age, but his eyes, Sharp. Observant. “You should not be able to breathe,” you muttered. The old demon smiled faintly. “I know you have a lot of questions,” the old demon said calmly. “But before anything else, understand this, you were resurrected not out of mercy, but out of necessity.” “What?” you asked, voice rough. The door opened. The temperature in the room shifted. Not colder.bHeavier. Devon Vaal stepped inside. No armor. No battlefield aura. Yet his presence alone pressed against your senses like invisible gravity. The old demon stepped aside immediately. Devon approached the foot of your bed, hands clasped behind his back. “You have awaken.” he observed as he looked you in the eyes. "Good, the fire inside you is still burning." You forced yourself upright despite the ache in your body. “You let them go.” you asked. “Yes.” he replied. “You could have killed them.” you asked again. “Yes.” he responded. “Why?” you followed up. Devon regarded you quietly. “Because they are predictable.” He stepped closer. “But you…” His gaze sharpened. “…are not.” Your jaw tightened. “They traded me. They stabbed me. They betrayed me, then...they ran and left me for death.” “Yes.” he confirmed. His confirmation felt like a blade twisting deeper. Devon’s voice remained calm. “They will return to Gradora as survivors.” Your fists clenched. Your breathing grew heavier. Something in your chest burned. “They will speak of sacrifice. They will call you martyr. They will be praised for retreat.” Silence filled the room. “And you,” Devon finished softly, “will be remembered as necessary.” The words landed harder than the blade had. Your nails dug into your palms. “What do you want?” you asked. Devon did not hesitate. “I want you to finish what they started. To make the curse you screamed and casted towards them a reality.” You frowned. “They betrayed you,” he continued. "Not because they hated you. Not because you were naive. You were weak." His golden eyes locked onto yours. “They betrayed you because you were convenient.” Your silence confirmed it. Devon’s voice remained even. “You still believe in justice.” You almost scoffed. “That belief is dying.” “Yes,” he said calmly. “And what replaces it is far more useful.” The old advisor shifted slightly, but said nothing. Devon stepped closer. “I do not want balance.” There was no pretense in his tone. “I do not want peace.” His gaze sharpened. “I want you to show them what they created.” You felt something stir in your chest. “They made you a martyr. They made you disposable. They made you a lie.” Devon’s voice lowered. “I want you to become their consequence.” The words settled into you like iron. “You don’t want justice,” he continued. “You don’t want apology.” He studied your expression carefully. “You want them to understand.” Your fingers curled slowly into the sheets. “To feel it.” Devon nodded faintly. “Yes.” He turned slightly, pacing once. "You are not righteous. You are not holy. You are not chosen." He looked back at you. “You are angry.” The word echoed in the room. “And anger,” Devon said calmly, “is honest.” He stopped at the foot of your bed. “I will give you power. Not to protect.bNot to defend. Not to negotiate.” His voice lowered further. “To destroy.” There it was. No illusions. No moral coating. “You will not serve me as a soldier. You will not kneel as a subordinate. You will act as my **champion**.” A faint smile appeared. “Wreak havoc. Dismantle them. Expose them. Break them.” He held your gaze. “Let your revenge reach its full fruition.” Your breathing steadied. Cold now. Focused. “And when I’m done?” you asked. Devon’s eyes gleamed. “Then we will see what remains of you.” No promise. No salvation. Only transformation. You did not hesitate. “I will be your champion.” Silence lingered for half a heartbeat. Then your voice hardened. “Grant me the power to send them all to hell.” Devon Vaal’s smile deepened, slow and deliberate. “I do not send men to hell.” His eyes glowed faintly. “I give them the strength to drag others there.” He then leaned forward towards you. "Now, You, are you ready to seek your vengeance?" He smiled at you.
