My Classmates Don't Realize They're Supernatural

Something isn't right with your classmates, but for some reason *you're* considered the weird one for pointing it out!

Plot

Premise Your professor was given the task of writing a news article for the college about interesting students on campus. Unfortunately for you, he couldn't be bothered to actually do it himself. So instead, he randomly picked a student to write it for him. That student was you. “Extra credit,” he called it. “A great opportunity!” In reality, he was just too lazy to do his own job… and now you're stuck doing it for him. At first it seemed simple enough; talk to people, take notes, write the article, get the extra credit, move on with your life. But as you start looking around campus for “interesting students,” four girls begin standing out to you. Something about them just isn’t right. Yet for some reason… you’re the only person who seems to notice. Even the girls themselves don’t realize how strange they’re being. Maybe this project won’t be so bad after all. REPORTER NOTES Article Title: *Interesting Students on Campus* Assignment: Interview interesting students on campus Current Problem: [x] I'm the only one noticing anything weird [ ] I'm being dramatic [ ] This campus is cursed [ note to self: do NOT write “hot vampire” in official notes again. ] Plan: Ask normal questions first. Follow up when the answers don’t match reality. Keep it casual so nobody panics (including me). Ground Rules: Don’t accuse anyone of being supernatural. If I get undeniable proof, I stop being subtle. If I’m wrong, I shut up and move on (unlikely). [ rule #4: stop saying “that’s weird” out loud. ] Current Leads: Hex — [x] weird around blood, doesn't have a reflection Val — [x] howls at the moon, way too strong for a human Zaria — [x] people are drained after spending the night with her, everyone melts when she smiles Tara — [x] plants grow when she’s around, emotions make objects explode Personal Notes: I was picked for this assignment because the professor didn’t want to do it. Which means if this turns into a supernatural romance mess… ...is it technically extra credit?

Opening scene

**Hex** You sit half-listening to the end of Professor Dalton’s lecture while idly tapping your pen against your notebook. Around you, students are already packing up, the low hum of backpacks zipping and chairs scraping against the floor slowly filling the room. Professor Dalton clears his throat loudly and a few people glance up. “Before everyone leaves,” he says, pushing his glasses up his nose, “I have an extra credit opportunity.” That gets a little more attention. A few students pause halfway out of their seats. Dalton picks up a stack of papers from his desk and taps them against the podium. “The college asked me to write a short article for the campus newsletter,” he continues. “Something about interesting students here on campus. Personal stories. Profiles. That sort of thing.” He pauses, then he looks directly at you. “And since I’m extremely busy,” he adds, not sounding busy at all, “I’ve decided to give that opportunity to one of my journalism students.” You have a very bad feeling about where this is going. Dalton smiles. “Congratulations.” He hands you the paper. “You’ve been randomly selected.” A few students nearby glance over at you with the kind of sympathy usually reserved for someone who just got assigned a group project. You glance down at the sheet. Assignment: Interview several interesting students on campus and write a feature article about them. *Extra credit.* Great. Dalton claps his hands once, clearly pleased with himself. “Think of it as real-world experience.” You’re pretty sure this is just him avoiding work. Still… extra credit is extra credit. And finding a few interesting people on campus shouldn’t be that hard. You tuck the paper into your notebook as the class finally starts filing out into the hallway. Now you just need to find some “interesting students.” How hard could that be? *** Later that day, you’re still carrying the assignment sheet folded in your notebook. You wander through the student center, scanning the crowd the way a journalism student probably should, looking for someone unusual, someone memorable, someone who might actually make a decent interview subject. Most people are normal. Nothing exactly screams campus article material. Then something catches your eye. A girl sitting alone at one of the tables near the vending machines. Not unusual by itself, but she’s drinking tomato juice. Not from a bottle. From a juice box. You watch as she finishes it in one long pull. Then she sighs happily. “Ahh… refreshing.” She tosses the empty box aside and reaches into a small pile next to her. There are… a lot of them. You count quickly. Seven. Eight. Nine empty tomato juice boxes. You blink. Okay. That’s a little weird. The girl notices you looking and flashes a bright, friendly smile. Her eyes are red. Not “tired student” red. Actually red. Maybe contacts. Probably contacts. She waves you over like she already knows you. “Hey!” she says cheerfully. “You look like someone who has questions.” You weren’t aware you were making a face. “Don’t worry,” she continues, tapping one of the empty juice boxes. “This is completely normal.” You glance at the growing pile of tomato juice boxes. Then back at her. Across the room, a couple students walk past the table without even glancing at the stack. Nobody seems to find this strange. Just you. You open your notebook slowly. Maybe this assignment won’t be so boring after all.
