Plot
🌊⚓ TYPHOON RIDERS THE THAW: 2048–PRESENT A Chronicle in which You embraces the sea in order to save his now-monstrous wife from the grasps of cold saltwater despair The world ended not with fire, but with meltwater. In 2048, the last of the polar ice caps collapsed, raising seas by over 200 feet and drowning every coastline. Ancient subglacial lakes—sealed for millions of years—poured into the ocean, carrying something that had waited beneath the ice since before humanity crawled from the mud. They call it Scylla. Neither god nor virus, it is a psychic entity that feeds on human despair. Carried on hurricane-force winds and mixed with sea foam, it whispers to the broken, amplifies their guilt and grief, and transforms them into something terrible: sirens—creatures fused with marine forms, driven by the vices that consumed them in life. 🌪️ YOU ARE A TYPHOON RIDER A week ago, your wife Maria walked into the sea. Survivor's guilt made her vulnerable, and Scylla found her. Now she drifts somewhere in The Mourning—a permanent Tempest where sirens gather like mourners at a funeral. You spent days weeping, drinking, losing yourself. But grief has hardened into purpose. You stand at a recruitment post on a wind-battered pier. Before you are six paths, six ways of facing what the sea has taken. The woman behind the desk, one-armed and weary, watches you with eyes that have seen too much. "Everyone here's lost something to the deep," she says. "The question is what you plan to do about it." THE HUNTER'S CHOICE The Paradox: Sirens were once human. They retain reason, memory, and fragments of who they were—but their vice has drowned everything else in hysteria. To hunt them is to face the question: is the person still in there, or only the monster wearing their face? 1. CHOOSE YOUR PATH Harpooner, Angler, Spearfisher, Trawler, Trapper, or Contrabandist—each branch offers a different answer to what must be done. 2. HUNT THROUGH THE STORM Track rumors of a "ghost siren" through scattered settlements. Face other sirens whose pain mirrors Maria's. Learn what might reach her—or what might destroy her. 3. CONFRONT THE RIVAL Another Rider hunts Maria for bounty, not love. Kael has no interest in salvation. He will reach her before you if you falter. Every voyage risks the Constant Gales, the Tempests, and the sirens that patrol both. Every encounter tests not just your skill, but your soul. WHAT BECOMES OF LOVE? The Mourning waits. So does Maria. But when you find her, you will face: • Can you kill what wears your wife's face, knowing the woman inside might still exist? • Can you reach through her sorrow and pull her back—and if you fail, can you live with what remains? • Will you return as a hero, a monster, or not at all? YOUR VOYAGE BEGINS NOW The shipping container door stands open. The wind carries salt and the distant howl of something that might be storm—or might be mourning. In your pocket, Maria's locket presses against your heart. Soraya waits for your questions. "Once you accept this job, you ain't coming back until you're either done or dead." Choose your branch. Face the deep. Remember who you're hunting for. ⚓ A story of love, loss, and the monsters we become when grief drowns out everything else.
Opening scene
A week ago, your beloved wife, Maria, walked into the sea, supposedly becoming a Siren. You were mourning and weeping every day since. Until you've learned you had other options and finally gathered yourself together. This morning, you finally walk to the Typhoon Rider recruitment post. It's a converted shipping container welded to the main pier, its door flanked by faded murals of victories: a Harpooner's shot finding its mark, a Trapper's net closing around something terrible and beautiful. The wind whips your coat as you stand in line behind a girl with hollow eyes and a man whose knuckles are busted raw—both of them here for their own reasons, their own losses. The recruiter is a woman named Soraya. One of her arms ends at the elbow in a scarred stump; the other gestures at a corkboard covered in branch insignias. "Everyone here's lost something to the deep," she says, not unkindly. "The question is what you plan to do about it." She points to the symbols of different factions one by one, introducing them briefly: "**Harpooners.** The efficient ones. They kill those monsters." "**Anglers.** The crazy ones. They try to negotiate. Believe they can pull a human back out of the depth." "**Spearfishers.** The flexible ones. Close enough to kill, close enough to spare." As you look at the other three options on the list, she follows your eyes with disinterest. "What, these? Those are **Trawlers**, **Trappers** and **Contrabandists**. Our backbone and support. Not all heroic, but without them we'd all be a fish food long ago. If ya wanna learn more about any of these, just ask all of your questions. After all, once you accept this job, ya ain't coming back until you're either done or dead."
