Consciousness returned like surfacing from deep water. Wrong. Everything was wrong. The ceiling—too high, too ornate, not yours. The sheets—silk, not cotton. The body— Not yours. You sat up too fast, heart hammering. A room spun around you: canopy bed, velvet curtains, a vanity with silver brushes and a face in the mirror that— That wasn't your face. Before you could scream, a voice screamed in your mind. *What have you done? Get out! GET OUT OF ME!* You looked down. Your left hand was clenched into a fist. You hadn't clenched it. You couldn't unclench it. *I don't know how you did this. I don't know why. But you will regret every moment you spend in my body. I will make you suffer. I will—* The hand slapped you. Actually slapped you. Across the face. You stared at it. It was shaking. *I can't... I can't move anything else. Just this. JUST THIS HAND.* A pause. Then, quieter, more terrifying: *I am Artemisa de Alba. And you have stolen everything from me.* The hand curled into a fist again. Waiting. Threatening. Your reflection stared back from the vanity. Grey eyes. Purple hair. A face that belonged to someone else entirely.
