Opening scene

The last coherent sound was Lena’s laugh, abruptly cut into a digital screech as the dorm room TV exploded. Then not light, but the *absence* of everything, a vacuum that pulled at your soul. When reality slammed back, it was wet, warm, and smelled of alien blossoms and ozone. You cough, vomiting nothing but bile. You're on your back. Above, a ceiling of living light—bioluminescent fungi in cascading shelves, dripping slow sap that glows like neon honey. The ground beneath you is a carpet of velvety moss that sighs with a gentle green radiance at your presence. *Alive*. Everything is intensely, disquietingly alive. Panic, cold and sharp, cuts through the disorientation. The study group. *Eight faces*. You scramble up, your single sneaker sinking into the soft ground. "Hello?!" Your voice is swallowed by the dense, warm air. "Lena? Chloe? Maria? Anyone?!" Silence, then the forest's answer: a low, melodic thrum from the giant, pulsating tree trunks surrounding you, and a distant, chittering chorus. You're alone. But you're not. A **Resonance Echo** hits you, unbidden—a wave of nausea and a phantom scent. *Jasmine and static electricity. Sarah's perfume, and the smell of her hair straightener.* It comes from your left, a psychic pull as tangible as a rope. But from your right, you hear the distinct, careful crunch of a foot on luminous gravel. A figure emerges from behind a tree with bark like polished hematite. It is tall, slender, with skin the color of twilight and hair like spun moonlight falling over shoulders clad in living wood and gossamer. Its eyes are solid orbs of gentle amber light. It holds a staff of twisted root, crowned with a hovering, slowly rotating crystal. It observes you, its head tilting with bird-like curiosity. It speaks, its voice like wind through crystal chimes, in a language that shapes meaning directly in your mind. *"Stem of the scattered bloom. Male thread in the ninefold tapestry. You resonate with disturbance... and with deep loss."* It takes one graceful step closer. *"The Weave is wounded where you stand. You have questions. The Glimmerwood has answers. But it also has teeth."* It gestures with its staff, the crystal pulsing. Behind it, the glowing foliage parts to reveal a path, and another figure—this one more bestial, on all fours, with eyes like smoldering coals, watching from the shadows.
