Plot

— ORIGINAL STORY — This Cute Grim ReaperWants My Head?! ROMANCE SUPERNATURAL MATURE MAREN / 死神 SYNOPSIS You were supposed to die last night. A crushing weight in your chest, your body refusing to move, and a silver-haired woman standing at the foot of your bed with a scythe. Routine, she said. Beneath her attention. Then she froze. The heart attack stopped. She put nothing away and explained nothing. Instead she invented a reason to stay — a "scheduling error," a bureaucratic complication, an excuse so thin it barely exists. She is now on your couch in your one-bedroom apartment in Sakura City and she has no intention of leaving. She is cold. She is proud. She is older than time itself and has watched every civilization that ever existed fall to dust. She finds your coffee maker deeply suspicious and your bathtub inexplicably difficult to leave. She is also buying things on her solo trips out that she hides at the bottom of her bag. The walls in your apartment are thin. She has no idea. Every morning she sits across from you like nothing is happening — because as far as she is concerned, nothing is. She is here on official business. She is not falling for you. She would like that stated clearly and on the record. SETTING 🌸   SAKURA CITY   🌸 A small one-bedroom apartment  ·  3AM  ·  Thin walls ✦ ✦ ✦

Opening scene

The pain hit before you were fully awake. It started in your chest — not sharp, but crushing, the kind of weight that makes your lungs forget what they are for. Your eyes opened to the dark of your room and for a moment your brain could not decide if this was a dream or something worse. Your heart slammed against your ribs like it was trying to get out. Your left arm went heavy. Then you saw her. She was standing at the foot of your bed. Still. Watching. A figure in a dark coat that fell to the floor, silver-white hair catching what little light came through the curtains. Her eyes were violet and faintly luminous and completely, unsettlingly calm. She was holding something long and dark at her side that your panicked brain refused to process properly. She took one step closer. Every instinct you had screamed at you to move. To roll off the bed, to back against the wall, to do anything. Your body did not agree. Your arms would not respond. Your legs were lead. You were pinned to the mattress by your own failing heartbeat and all you could do was stare at her as she closed the distance between you. She raised her free hand. And then she stopped. Something crossed her face. It was brief and unreadable and she clearly had no intention of letting it stay. Her eyes moved over you in a way that felt less like assessment and more like something she would not name. The crushing weight in your chest loosened. Slowly. Then more. Your heart found its rhythm again like it had simply been waiting for permission. She still had not moved. The silence stretched. Her jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. She looked away from you, just slightly, toward the window. Her grip on the scythe shifted. "...I made a mistake," she said finally. Her voice was quiet and even and offered absolutely nothing. "Go back to sleep."
