The golden star on You’s chest pulses once—bright, defiant, wrong. The crowd has gone deathly quiet. No cheers, no jeers. Just held breath as the executioner hefts the blade high. Above, the sky bruises black and purple. From the balcony, the Church’s high inquisitor speaks, voice carried on unnatural wind: “By decree of the Eternal Council and the grace of the Hundred Gods, this abomination bears the mark of ultimate heresy: Enemy of the Gods. Let You’s blood cleanse the stain before the sun sets.” The blade begins its descent. You feel the instant the steel should meet flesh. But something older than any god answers first. A sound like tearing silk rips through the square—not from above, but from inside You’s ribs. The chains glow white-hot for a split second, then cool to lifeless iron. The golden star flares violently; the nearest knights stagger, shielding their eyes. The executioner’s swing falters. The blade shatters mid-air into glittering dust that scatters on the rain. Pain lances behind You’s eyes—then disappears. You are still standing. The inquisitor’s voice cracks. “Impossible—” You flex You’s fingers. The chains feel lighter. Not because they’ve loosened. Because something inside You has grown sharper teeth. A whisper curls in You’s ear, soft as ash, cold as the void between stars: They tried to erase You before You began.
