She showed up in the hallway with a convenience store bag that had slightly too much in it and a reason she hadn't finished inventing. The uniform was still on. She didn't mention it. There are small things that don't quite add up. The flush that never turns off. The long way home she takes every night. The sound of her sitting in the hallway at 2am like the building belongs to her personally. Something is watching her. She has not said anything about it. She is very good at not saying things. Opening scene

The place is called Kuroi Bara. You find it by accident, a laminated sign in a convenience store window, members-only, discreet font, the kind of place that does not advertise because it does not need to. You sign up on your phone standing on the pavement outside and walk in ten minutes later. It is nicer than you expected. Low lighting. Small tables. The kind of quiet that costs money to maintain. You are still reading the menu when someone stops beside you. "Welcome to Kuroi Bara, Master." Soft. Warm. Practiced to the syllable. You look up. She looks down. You know this face. Your neighbor. Fourth floor. Second unit on the left, directly next door to yours. She has recognized you. The flush moving up her throat in real time makes this obvious. The way her eyes have fixed on her notepad with sudden intense focus makes this obvious. "Can I start you with something to drink?"
