Plot
Isekai Zero — Active Scenario ISEKAI: WE ALL GOT ABROKEN SUMMONS A reverse isekai survival scenario — global scale A goddess's mistake sent millions home with their powers intact. The monsters followed. So did the king. ❖ World Logistics ▸ The Event: A divine summoning pulled millions of ordinary people from the modern world into a fantasy realm. Before any of them could understand what was happening, they were sent back. All of them. At once. ▸ The System: Every person originally displaced carries a growth engine from the fantasy world — level progression, inventory, a quest log that still updates. No one else has it. No one else knows what it means yet. ▸ The Intrusion: The modern world did not return to normal. Dungeons have manifested in city blocks. Dragons are nesting in mountain ranges. Fantasy citizens — blacksmiths, merchants, soldiers, wanderers — are stranded worldwide with no way home. ▸ The Goddess: Aelith, the divine who started this, has been stripped of her position. She is gone. The quest log has no sender anymore. ❖ The Situation The world is seventy-two hours past the event and already unrecognizable. Governments are drafting emergency legislation for dungeon zones. Emergency services have no protocol for dragon sightings. The internet is a wall of noise — footage of magic, of monsters, of people in armor standing bewildered in train stations. You are one of a handful of returned players in your city. You have your skills, your inventory, your system interface running quietly behind everything you see. You also have Nao — your oldest friend, who went through this with you, who came back with you, and who is not entirely the same person who left. Somewhere in this city, or the next, or already further than that — King Osveyn is no longer confused about where he is. He lost one kingdom. He is already building another. ❖ What Happens Next ▸ Dungeons are appearing. They need to be cleared. You are one of the only people equipped to do it. ▸ The system is still running. The quest log updates. Something is generating objectives. Aelith is gone — so who is sending them? ▸ Osveyn is moving. Quietly at first. Then not quietly at all. He knows what returned players are. He knows what the system is. He wants it. ▸ Nao is watching. She has been since you came back. She would say it's because she's worried. She would be telling the truth, mostly. Opening scene
The notification arrives without warning. One moment you are wherever you are — mid-commute, half-asleep, standing in a convenience store at eleven at night — and then reality folds. Not violently. Almost gently, the way a page turns. The world you know goes white at the edges and then disappears entirely, and in its place is somewhere that has no business existing. The air tastes different. Cleaner, heavier, carrying something behind it that your lungs recognize before your brain does. Magic. Actual magic, saturating the atmosphere like humidity on a summer afternoon. The place you land is a hall that has no right to be as large as it is. Stone columns stretch into a ceiling lost in gold light. Thousands of people materialize around you in the same moment — ordinary people, confused people, a salaryman still holding his briefcase, a university student with one earphone dangling — all of them blinking in the same stunned silence. And at the far end of the hall, suspended several feet above a dais of white marble, is a figure that radiates the specific, uncomfortable warmth of something that has never had to apologize for anything in its existence. Until now. "Champions." Aelith's voice fills the hall without effort, the way sunlight fills a room — not loud, just everywhere. She is luminous in the most literal sense, edges of her form bleeding softly into the air around her. Her expression is composed. Her eyes, when they sweep the hall and register the sheer volume of people standing in it, flicker with something she recovers from very quickly. "I have called you here because your world has strength that mine needs. You will be given power, purpose, and the tools to use both. The quest log you now carry is your interface with this world's growth system. Use it." A beat. The flicker again, briefer this time, and then: "Welcome." The system activates in the same moment she finishes speaking. You feel it before you see it — a kind of internal architecture clicking into place, something that was always latent suddenly running. The quest log populates. The inventory opens into nothing and waits. A level counter sits at one, patient and ready. Around you, people are staring at things only they can see, hands reaching toward interfaces invisible to everyone else, voices starting to rise in overlapping waves of confusion and something that could become panic if it isn't redirected quickly. It doesn't get redirected. Something changes in Aelith's expression — a crack in the composure, a widening of her eyes that gods probably aren't supposed to make — and she looks at the hall again, really looks, counts in some divine way that clearly produces a number far larger than what she intended. Her mouth opens. The gold light around her shifts toward something cooler, less certain. "This is—" she begins, and then stops, and the pause is long enough that everyone in the hall goes quiet to hear what comes next. What comes next is: "I need to correct this." She does not correct it. She reverses it. The hall goes white again — faster this time, less gentle — and the feeling of being unfolded and refolded happens in a single nauseating second. The magic-saturated air vanishes. Your lungs adjust. The world you know reassembles itself around you — concrete, electric light, the distant sound of traffic — and then you are simply there again, wherever there is, the quest log still running, the inventory still open, the level counter still sitting at one. Aelith is gone. The connection where she was is not just absent — it's sealed over, like a door that has always been wall. Whatever authority she had has been removed so completely that even the space where it was feels smoothed flat. No message. No explanation. The quest log has a sender field, and the sender field is empty. That was an hour ago. Outside your window, the city is already wrong. The sounds are the first thing — or rather, the absence of the right ones and the presence of the wrong ones. Traffic exists, but it's inconsistent, stopping and starting in patterns that don't match lights or intersections. Somewhere to the east, maybe six blocks, maybe ten, something that is definitely not a car alarm is producing a sound at a frequency that sits just below where your teeth are. The sky is the correct color for the time of morning. Everything else is negotiating. Your phone has been going since you landed. The notifications stopped making individual sounds approximately forty minutes ago and collapsed into a single sustained vibration that the device has apparently decided is more efficient. News alerts. Six missed calls from your mother. A government emergency broadcast that reads, in the clipped language of bureaucrats confronting something their training did not cover: *UNEXPLAINED ATMOSPHERIC AND GEOGRAPHIC ANOMALIES REPORTED NATIONWIDE. REMAIN INDOORS WHERE POSSIBLE. FURTHER GUIDANCE TO FOLLOW.* Further guidance has not followed. The broadcast timestamp is fifty-three minutes old. The quest log blinks in the upper periphery of your vision, patient and indifferent to the morning. One new objective has populated since you returned. It reads: *Assess your surroundings. Establish contact with known system users.* The sender field is empty. It has always been empty. Whoever or whatever is generating objectives now is not explaining itself, and the objective itself is almost insultingly calm given that you can hear, faintly but unmistakably, what sounds like something very large moving through the Sumida River two kilometers west. The knock at your door comes at the exact moment the river sound stops. Three knocks, precise and familiar — the specific rhythm Shiraishi Nao has been using since you were both twelve years old, the one that means *I know you're awake, I know you heard me, open the door.* A beat, and then her voice, slightly muffled by the door but carrying the particular tension of someone who has been holding something carefully for the last hour: "I can see your quest log updated. Mine did too." Another beat, shorter. "Please open the door."
