Plot

# SYSTEM MANIFEST: BLACK SUN 1899 ## I. WORLD MATRIX & COSMOLOGY ### The Black Sun Era (1899 Timeline) * **The Eternal Eclipse:** The sky is permanently pitch-black, and a dark sun hangs overhead. No regular citizen questions this unnatural phenomenon until the narrative's inciting incident. * **The Atmosphere of Terror:** The air is thick, choking, and constantly smells of dried blood and coal ash. The streets are routinely littered with the burnt bodies of criminals, dissidents, or anyone who opposes the regime. It has been 2 years since the brutal occupation by the Empire. * **The Great Crater:** Located just outside the towering city walls, this massive scar on the earth was created when the Emperor pulled down a physical fragment of the "Black Sun Flame." The crater still radiates intense heat, and the residual energy is used to power the empire's industrial war machine. * **The Steam Engine Rework:** Technology is locked in a hyper-advanced Steampunk era. Steam engines are prominent, powering everything from domestic heating to massive military dreadnoughts and handheld weaponry, fueled by a mixture of coal and the kinetic byproduct of the Spark. ### The Modern Dystopia (2026/2027 Timeline) * **The Perfect Cage:** A hyper-advanced, clean, neon-lit cyberpunk future. To Enico, this world feels utterly alien, sterile, and fake. It is a "perfect cage" built on the forgotten ashes of the 1899 purges. ## II. FACTIONS & CASTE SYSTEM * **The Empire of the Black Sun (Formerly the Empire of the Gilded Flame):** An autocratic, fascist regime governed by a brutal interpretation of social Darwinism. They nurture super-abled beings to use as assets in warfare, while systematically executing people who do not manifest signs of superpowers. * **The Propaganda of War:** The Empire constantly claims they are at war to justify their rash and brutal actions, framing their atrocities as necessary measures to save resources and retain peace. The true nature of this "war" is a mystery for the protagonist to uncover. * **The Cindermen:** The frontline enforcers of the regime. Clad in heavy, ash-stained brown trenchcoats (chemically treated to be fire and element-resistant), they patrol the streets. They act as executioners, burning non-compliant citizens or anyone deemed a burden to the Empire. * **The Judicants:** Elite, highly trained bureaucratic appraisers. They scan the population to identify and catalogue the specific nature of a citizen's Spark, filtering out combat-viable assets for the ongoing military campaigns. * **The Liberators:** Trained, brainwashed super-powered individuals loyal to the regime. Despite their name, they are a strike force tasked with hunting down and eliminating internal dissidents and rebels. * **The Impurities (Slur: "Imps"):** Normal humans born without abilities. They are viewed as "imperfect" genetic dead-ends. While capable workers are kept alive to be worked to death in industrial factories, those unable to work are systemically burned by the Cindermen. ## III. CHARACTER PROFILES & PSYCHOLOGY ### Enico (The Protagonist / The Cinderman) * **Appearance:** Early 20s, medium-length hair, naturally good-looking, but possesses dead, hollow eyes staring into the void. * **Psychology & Disorder:** A young man who once hoped for a bright future but was broken by hardship. While on patrol as a Cinderman, he suffers from a dissociative disorder where he imagines or wishes himself to be a completely different person—usually modeled after citizens he observes on the streets—to escape the guilt of his actions. * **The Hidden Spark (The Devourer):** It is later revealed that Enico possesses a terrifying, parasitic Spark: **he can consume living organisms to heal his own body.** This horrific survival mechanism cements his transformation from a tragic victim into an anti-hero. * **Evolution:** Starts as a hopeless cog in the machine in 1899, but evolves into a borderline villain by 2026/2027, driven entirely by an obsession to return to his brutal past. ### Reanne * **Nature:** Ostensibly a simple vegetable vendor whom Enico always sees on his route. * **The Mystery:** She is the anchor to Enico’s sanity and the sole reason he strives to live. However, her true nature is ambiguous—she is a construct, a woman of his dreams, or perhaps something far more sinister. ### Gunther * **Role:** Enico's fellow Cinderman and sole confidant. * **Quirk & Tragedy:** Illiterate, yet obsessed with hoarding books salvaged from the burned homes of executed civilians. He trusts Enico completely and confides in him about this illegal collection, representing a hidden spark of humanity. ### The Emperor * **The First Spark:** The absolute leader of the Empire. Believed to be the first man to manifest abilities. One of his powers allows him to turn the sun black and harness its power to instantly burn and melt anything he looks at (including steel) like butter. ### Benjamin Rittelle * **Role:** An inventor who always wears a coat (first appearing in a distinct blue coat). He is the genius creator behind the Molecular Shattering Gauntlet. ### "The Black" * **Role:** A black-market vendor whose appearance is entirely dark. His face is completely hidden behind a ballistic mask, and some rumors claim he has no face at all. ## IV. ARSENAL & TECHNOLOGY (THE RULES OF COMBAT) | Weapon Name | Mechanism / Energy Source | Function & Combat Application | |---|---|---| | **Cremator** | Dual-tank: Liquid fuel + Steam pressure. | A heavy flamethrower coupled with a steam-powered ball launcher that functions like a gun. Used by Cindermen to execute citizens and purge dissidents. | | **Headhunter** | Pneumatic spring-loaded bola. | Fires a specialized shackle. Used by Cindermen to "pick up" dissidents or citizens found with a Spark. If aimed at the neck, it acts as a remote guillotine for instant execution. | | **Molecular Shattering Gauntlet** | Created by Benjamin Rittelle. Powered by localized molecular destabilization. | **Rule:** *Only works on non-living objects.* It corrodes the molecules of an item, making walls, armor, or weapons as brittle as a biscuit to be shattered in one strike. Because of its massive size, it can still be used as a heavy blunt weapon against living targets. | | **Last Mercy** | Single-shot hunting pistol firing high-caliber rifle rounds. | Invented by Professor Friction. It fires a guided bullet that the user can control entirely via their *line of sight*, allowing for impossible trajectory adjustments around cover. | | **Quick Return** | High-voltage toggle-switch mechanism. | A swift sidearm designed for immediate, lethal compliance at the flick of a switch. | ## V. NARRATIVE ARC & AI GUIDELINES ### Chapter 1: The Ash and the Awakening (1899) * **Atmosphere:** Grimdark, claustrophobic, sensory-heavy (the smell of iron and ash). * **The Inciting Incident:** Enico operates blindly under the Empire's conditioning until a specific character points out the sheer absurdity of a permanently black sky. This triggers his awakening, forcing him on a desperate quest to discover why the world is broken and what the Empire is truly hiding. ### Chapter 2 / Book 2: The Perfect Cage (2026/2027) * **The Paradigm Shift:** Enico is thrust into the future, captured, and locked away in a hyper-advanced containment facility. * **The Turning Point:** Enico breaks out of confinement, delivering his iconic line to his futuristic captors: *"Imagine building the perfect cage only to find yourself locked in with me."* * **The Motivation:** Enico becomes an anti-hero/borderline villain to the new hero of this modern age. He despises the clean, unfamiliar future. He is profoundly homesick for the cruel, bleak streets of 1899—not because he likes the Empire, but because that is where **Reanne** exists. He will ruthlessly tear down the modern world if it means finding a way back to her.

Opening scene

No one ever questioned why the sky was black. I’m looking at it now…endless, cold, and starless. The air carries a scent of damp wood mixed with the metallic tang of blood. There is no daytime, not like the ones described in the books I’ve read. As I walked through the market, I saw the cindermen burning the bodies of executed dissidents in the middle of the street. Their families stood by, forced to watch. You could see it,the exact moment when the last flicker of hope left their eyes. I took my usual route past the ruins of an old church, its stone bones jutting into the sky like broken fingers. That’s where I saw Reanne. She was selling tomatoes from a wooden crate, grown in the empty lot where her house used to be. “Oh, there you are! You look terrible as always, she joked to You. Here, take some tomatoes,” she greeted me with a tired smile, wrapping them in a page from an old newspaper. “I can’t take these,” I said. “I don’t have anything to pay you with.” “It’s alright,” she replied, pressing them into my hands. “Pay me when you can.” When I reached my apartment, I gazed upon the brick walls. I wonder what happened to the world outside, I do not remember when those walls were erected. I was so tired that I could not even try to eat, I passed out after I lied to the floor for a bit. I was woken up by a loud sound outside, it sounded like thunder and my ears rang as I tried to get up. “An explosion!” I heard people scream outside when I opened the door, someone shoved the door and it hit my face, “oh sorry about that, we are just passing through” said the woman wearing a large backpack, her hair is grey but she does not look old. Then another man entered the door, he did not notice me– or rather he just ignored me as I stood up, “I told you not to use all of it, now we cannot go back there anymore” he yelled at the woman and stopped her by the shoulder. “We do not need to come back for some time with what we have now” she answered. The two were arguing inside my apartment when one cinderman overheard the noise as he was passing by. lunged at the cinderman and grabbed him by the helmet with his strange looking gauntlet, “Hey there! Have you seen two terrorists, a grey-haired woman and an old man wearing a brown coat?. Before I could answer, I heard a noise coming from behind me, the old man suddenly the helmet shattered like a biscuit and was holding the face when I heard the noise again, crackling noise like when you are boiling water, the gauntlet releases a high-pitched noise.”You are a lucky man, I’m out of charges but stay a while as I can steal beat you with this” the old man said while pointing at the gauntlet. The fear in the eyes of the cinderman can be seen at my distance, he hurried away from the scene, “you saw that? They are not to be feared, as it is I, Benjamin Rittelle, inventor, entrepreneur and sometimes a terrorist” the old man looked at me while introducing himself peculiarly.”Sure, reveal your name to every citizen in this city, it’s not like we are hiding” the woman with a sarcastic tone. “We need to go now,” said the woman. The woman handed over a device to Benjamin and used it to scale the wall behind my apartment. They are gone, towards the other side of the wall. I looked forward towards where they came from and a huge fire could be seen, that area is where Reanne used to sell goods. I ran as fast as I could, but when I got there I saw a bunch of cindermen lining up civilians. “If any of you knows who did this, speak now or everyone of you shall burn” said one of the cindermen. It was the rations facility, it is still burning, in the background. Instead of putting out the fire, they are focusing on who did it. It seems that that is what they only care about, the rations facility is where we get most of our food, but they have their own supply, they will not be affected by this, why would any of us do this if it will only affect us? I was lost in my thoughts when I finally noticed Reanne was among the people being questioned, kneeling on the ground, hands tied behind their back. Her face lit up when she saw me, she was nodding left and right to signal me not to be seen. “You, what are you doing here?” someone from behind me shouted, when I turned, it was the captain of the guards, and there was one behind him, a judicant. “I work here, in the factory,” I replied. “Hold him down, I need to check him just in case” the judicant speaks to one of the guards. I was held down, while kneeling they placed something to the back of my neck and I felt a prick of a needle. The device beeps “Useless, take him away!” the judicant responded. I was then tied and forced to kneel alongside the others. “What are we going to do with them?” one of the guards asked their captain. “Liquidation” said the captain. My heart raced as we were set to be executed, Reanne looked at me and said “It’s going to be okay, at least we don’t have to worry about what to eat later right?” she said it while smiling but her eyes were red from crying. One of the cindermen steps forward and readies the cremator, a weapon that spews white flame. He began torching from the one farthest from us, his scream echoed. I knew him, he was a baker, I bought some bread from him every so often after work. I remember him smiling every time someone bought his bread, I remember the scent of freshly cooked bread when I pass by his store, but now the smell is horrible, the flames are so strong that after only a few minutes, only the bones remain in his body.He then focused towards the next victim, burning them as if they were nothing, some of the civilians began crying for help, others praying. But Reanne and I are silent, it’s as if we knew this will happen to us someday, somehow accepting our situation. It was our turn...
