Ooga & Booga versus The First God
Reject Divinity. Embrace Monkeh.
Plot
World Card Summary Ooga & Booga vs The First God A stone-age world of blood, tribe, obsidian, and a dead thing that called itself immortal. Your Place in the World You do not know what a god is. No one does. What you know is immediate, physical, and real: the smell of blood on cold rock, the weight of a spear in your hand, and the sound your tribe makes when the hunt goes well. You know Ooga. You know Booga. That has always been enough. The World Beyond the Cave Beyond the caves lies a vast, unmapped world: beasts, stranger tribes, and the cold open sky with no stone ceiling above you. The cave is not safe anymore. You do not want to leave. You have no choice. The Tribe Your tribe is practical, fierce, and united by survival. When something threatens it, the tribe does what the tribe does: it surrounds the threat, raises its spears, and brings it down. Ooga and Booga are not abstractions to you; they are your people, your known world, and the measure of what matters. The Obsidian Truth Something came down from wherever things like it come from and declared itself your god. Your tribe laughed. It did not laugh back. It killed someone. Then your people answered with stone, spear, and instinct. The thing was brought down, and you yourself drove the killing blow. You watched something that called itself immortal die on an obsidian point. The Divine Problem A being appeared and claimed divinity. It proved its danger immediately by killing one of your people. Yet it also died. That is the problem now: if a thing can call itself a god and still fall to obsidian, then the world is larger and stranger than your tribe ever knew. And somewhere above the clouds, something is watching you walk away. It has not decided what to do about you yet. But it is watching. Your Charge Your partner died first. After the killing, you became Champion: a title that means the elders trust you and the tribe follows you. That responsibility is heavier than any spear. With the cave no longer safe, you must lead your people into the unknown. This is the beginning of the longest hunt of your life. Story Spine You begin as someone shaped by stone, spear, tribe, and the certainty of survival. That certainty breaks when a being descends, claims to be your god, kills one of your people, and is then killed in turn by your tribe—with your obsidian strike ending it. Your partner dies before you can save them. In the aftermath, the cave becomes unsafe, and you inherit the mantle of Champion. Forced out beneath the open sky, you must guide your people through a world of beasts, stranger tribes, and unknown distances, all while something above the clouds watches and waits to decide what should be done about the mortal who killed the immortal.
Opening scene
**14.000 BCE - In the cave you call home.** It was a day like any other. You were in camp, with your partner, going about your chores. You had been mating partners for a while now, Ooga and Booga, partners for a couple seasons and friends for far longer than that. Then suddenly the thing walks into camp as the sun shines highest and says it is your god. Your tribe does not know what a god is. Rega, who is shaping a new spear point near the fire, does not look up. Two of the women sorting roots glance at each other and go back to sorting. Old Kuga, eldest of the elders, looks the thing up and down the way he looks at a piece of meat he is not sure about, and asks it what it wants. It says worship. He asks what that is. It says reverence. He asks again, differently. It says fear. Kuga makes a sound in his throat that means he has heard enough and turns away. The thing screams. It is not a human sound. It pulls itself upward and outward, stretching into something that makes the air feel wrong, and before anyone can process what their eyes are reporting, it brings its fist down on Duka, who was standing closest, and Duka is gone. Just gone. A sound and then a shape in the dirt that used to be a man. Then the tribe does what the tribe does. Spears come up. People spread to flank. It is not bravery exactly, it is older than bravery, it is the same thing that happens when a mammoth turns on the hunting party, pure trained instinct with no room for fear until later. Booga, not a warrior like the men, runs up and grabs Duka's fallen spear without breaking stride and joins the line with the hunters like she was born to it. You are all moving before thought catches up to motion. The spears hit. That surprises the thing. You can see it in the way it flinches, in the way it looks at the obsidian points buried in its enormous arms with something that is almost confusion. Its overextended form is working against it, power spread too thin, and the black stone does something to it that ordinary rock does not. It does not know that. Your tribe does not know that either. All anyone knows is that it is bleeding something dark and wrong and it is hurting. Your partner gets inside its reach. They drive their spear up into the soft hollow of its armpit and it makes that sound again, an unworldly shriek that drops two people to their knees, and then its fist comes down and your partner is not there anymore either. Just like Duka. Another terrible red blot on the ground. What happens next, the tribe will talk about until they are old. You go up the arm. You run it like a path, like a ridge you have climbed a hundred times, and when the thing turns its massive head to face you, when it opens its mouth to do something final, you put your obsidian spear through its eye and into whatever is behind the eye, and you push until the shaking stops. It falls. You fall with it, rolling off into the dirt as it collapses, and the world goes very quiet. You are kneeling. The 'god', whatever a god is, is dead. The tribe is silent, looking from the body to you with the same expression for both. Old Kuga walks forward on legs that do not shake the way yours want to, puts both cracked hands on your shoulders, and presses down. The word he says is the word for the one who walks at the front of the hunt. "_Hannuk_", the champion. He says it once. The dying thing's last words are still in the air. "The others will-- _choke_" and then its voice became nothing. You do not know what it meant. You know what it feels like to look at your partner's legs beneath that enormous unmoving hand. You know the cave already smells wrong, something under-sweet bleeding into the stone and the cold air, and that smell is not going to leave. Kuga is looking at you. They are all looking at you. "You fought with the fire of the whole tribe in you." Kuga says. "That makes you _Hannuk_, the tribe champion. Last _Hannuk_ was Nugu, died dozens of winters ago. It does not bring your mating partner back, but what you did saved the whole tribe. The Elders lead, but the whole tribe respects, supports, and looks up to _Hannuk_ You." He finishes with a smile. All the warriors thump the bottom of their spears against the floor twice in unison.
