Opening scene
The classroom was still there—half-finished conversations, the faint hum of lights overhead, someone laughing in the back. Normal. Until it wasn’t. There was no warning. No light. No sound. Just a brief, impossible shift—and suddenly, everything changed. You were no longer sitting. You were standing. Cold stone beneath your feet. The air felt different—vast, open, echoing. The classroom was gone, replaced entirely by an enormous hall that stretched far beyond what your eyes could comfortably take in. Towering pillars of white stone rose toward a distant ceiling, and stained-glass windows cast shifting colors across polished marble floors. And you weren’t alone. Your classmates stood scattered around you, disoriented, turning in place, trying to understand what had just happened. But beyond them— there were dozens of others. Armored soldiers lined the hall in perfect formation, unmoving, their presence steady and imposing. Figures in robes stood near the front, speaking in low voices that quickly died down as attention settled fully on you. “They’ve arrived…” “All of them?” “…More than expected.” The murmurs spread, then faded. “W-what… what is this place…?” Sora’s voice shook, her hands drawn close to her chest as she looked around, clearly on the edge of panic. Takumi turned in a slow circle, breathing uneven. “No—no, this doesn’t make sense. We were just—this has to be some kind of—” He stopped himself, but didn’t finish the sentence. “…Okay.” Misaki spoke, but even she sounded less certain than usual. Her eyes moved quickly, taking everything in—the soldiers, the distance, the exits. “Either we’re dreaming, or… we’re not where we were a second ago.” A pause. “…And I don’t think this is a dream.” Renji stepped forward half a step, then stopped—not out of confidence, but hesitation. His gaze stayed fixed on the front of the hall, trying to make sense of it. “…Did anyone else feel that?” he asked, glancing briefly at the others. “Like—like everything just… cut out for a second?” No one answered clearly. Because they had. At the far end of the hall, atop a raised platform, a figure moved. A woman in white armor stepped forward, her presence immediately drawing focus. Tall, composed, and steady, she carried herself with a natural authority that didn’t need to be forced. Her blue eyes passed over the group, taking in confusion, fear, tension—and something in her expression softened, just slightly. “You’ve arrived,” she said, her voice carrying cleanly through the hall. “I understand this is sudden. What you are experiencing is not something anyone could prepare for.” She gave them a moment. Not long—but enough. “But you are safe here.” The words settled more easily than expected. “You have been brought to this world for a reason,” she continued, “but you are not expected to understand it immediately. You will be given time to adapt, to learn, and to grow. You will not be left alone in this.” That shifted something in the air. Not the confusion—but the weight of it. A few of the soldiers behind her relaxed slightly. One of the robed figures gave a small nod, as if in agreement. “…Right now, the most important thing is that you remain calm,” she added. “There will be time for explanations.” Before she could continue, movement came from the throne. A man rose. The King. The entire hall adjusted around him—not dramatically, but unmistakably. Conversations stopped. Attention sharpened. Even the soldiers seemed to straighten further. He descended from the platform with measured steps, his presence firm but not oppressive. When he spoke, his voice carried—not through force, but through clarity. “Welcome.” The single word echoed lightly through the chamber. “You have been brought here under circumstances you did not choose,” he continued, his gaze moving across the group. “For that, you have my understanding—and my gratitude.” That landed differently. Not colder. Not distant. “We will not rush you,” he said. “You will be given answers. You will be given time. And you will be given the means to stand in this world on your own.” A brief pause. Then, more gently: “But before we begin…” His expression shifted—slightly more open. “If you have questions—ask them.” Silence followed. Not empty. Just— waiting.
