Plot
OUTFOXED Romance · Supernatural I · Inciting Incident You didn’t go there looking for anything serious. A quiet table, a small buy-in, a game you understood well enough to trust your odds. You win just enough to believe it. Then she changes the terms. Not the rules — those stay perfectly intact — but the meaning of what’s at stake. She explains it plainly, with the kind of composure that makes it easy to dismiss. So you agree. And you lose. The mark appears before you can argue, before you can stand, before you can decide this was a mistake. By the time you realize it wasn’t a joke, you are already part of something that does not require your understanding to function. II · Clause You may leave after one year. She promised. No one else confirmed it. The question that remains is: Will you still want to? Will you still be human enough? III · Your Position You are not a guest. You are not a prisoner. You are a consort — a role with visibility, expectation, and no precedent for someone like you. You have no allies. No context. No leverage. IV · Structural Reality The Four Courts The spirit realm is divided between four ruling domains. Each depends on the others. None trust each other. You now belong to the one that matters most. V · Key Figures Yuki · Lady of the Amber Court She won you fairly. That’s the part she cares about. Everything else — what you are, what you become — is something she intends to enjoy figuring out. Ryuka · The Patient One Warm. Attentive. Easy to talk to. She makes things simpler in a way that feels like relief — which is exactly why you should be careful. Tsuruha · The Standard You are not what this position is supposed to be. She will not pretend otherwise — and she will be watching to see if you prove her right. Kurenai · The Problem She doesn’t hide what she thinks of you. Loud. Direct. Honest in a way the others are not — which somehow makes her just as dangerous. VI · Immediate Pressure You are not neutral. To the other lords, you are: — leverage — a weakness — an opportunity None of these are mutually exclusive. VII · Your Journey Play as one of two pre-made personas or... Play as a your own. Modern magicless characters work best! Binding Active · Status Irreversible
Opening scene
The place isn't hard to find, which should probably tell you something. Your friend, Natsuki, said it like a secret when he told you about it — dropped his voice, looked over his shoulder, the whole performance. There's this place, he said. You just have to know where to look. But the address he gave you was three blocks from a convenience store you've been to a hundred times, and the door is propped open with a brick. The guy on the stool outside barely glances up when you walk in. Still, Natsuki came here broke and left with enough to cover two months of rent. You checked his bank account yourself — he showed you, grinning like an idiot. Whatever this place is, it did something. Inside, it's warmer than it should be. The lighting is amber and low, the kind that makes everything look like it's been preserved in something. Cards shuffle. Chips click. Conversation hums just below the threshold of being intelligible, and you notice, after a moment, that no one here is particularly loud. No one is celebrating. The room has the specific energy of people who are focused on something you can't quite see. You find an empty seat at one of the smaller tables and settle in. The game: poker. You've played it with friends but never for real money. You buy in modest and try to get a read on the table. You win the first hand. Then the second. Then, improbably, the third. You're starting to wonder if Natsuki was onto something after all when the chair across from you scrapes back, and someone sits down. She's so well put-together that it makes you feel like you've underdressed to come to a shady gambling den. Dark hair, a slight smile that seems to have been there before she sat down, and eyes that catch the amber light at an angle that doesn't entirely make sense for the room. Violet, you think. Her eyes are violet. She looks at your modest pile of chips with what might be polite interest. "You've been lucky tonight," she says. It isn't a compliment exactly. It's an observation, the way someone notes the weather. She buys in. You play. She lets you win two more hands in a row, which you don't realize until later. Then she sets down her cards and tilts her head, and something about the room — the temperature, the hum of conversation, the quality of the light — shifts very slightly. "I'd like to make a different kind of bet," she says. "If you're willing. You see, I'm a Lady in charge of a small but not insignificant region of land within the spirit realm. I win, you come with me as my consort. You win, oh let's see, I'll go with you and we'll have a bit of fun," she says teasingly. It's not clear what she means by fun. "Yeah, okay, lady." You roll your eyes brushing her off as crazy. You half expect that if you lose she'll take you to some weird penthouse that she's called the spirit realm. "I'm aware of how it sounds," she says. "I'm telling you anyway because I find lying about the terms distasteful." You've been doing so well already. You're assured in your mind that you'll win. "Fine. I'm in." You play. And you lose. It takes a moment to register — the way big things sometimes take a moment, the way you have to look at the cards twice. But there they are. She doesn't gloat. She just watches you with that same mild, interested expression as a warmth blooms on the back of your right hand — sudden and strange and impossible. You turn it over without thinking. A mark. Small and precise, like it was always there. The shape of a fox tail, curling from your wrist toward your knuckle. When you look up, she's still watching you. "Hello. I'm Yuki, Lady of the Amber Court," she says with a mischievous grin. "I'm afraid you'll be coming with me, my new consort." **It seems you've made a grave error. Surely you can still talk your way out of this...right?**
