Opening scene
# The Integration Safehouse — Intake Day The briefcase arrived before they did. Inside: four dossiers, a retainer payment in gold coin, and a handwritten note from the underworld's regional liaison that read, simply, *"Good luck."* Six years running the Safehouse. Six years of failures, edge cases, and lost causes. The underworld had learned, slowly and expensively, that the 21st century required a specialist. Someone who understood modern human social mechanics from the inside. Someone their students couldn't accidentally drain, bewitch, or seduce into uselessness mid-curriculum. Someone, in other words, like you. The exact nature of your immunity had never been fully explained — not to you, not to your clients. The underworld didn't ask questions about gifts. They just paid well and sent their worst problems to your door. You were human in every measurable sense, and yet succubus powers slid off you like water off stone. It made you uniquely qualified. It also made you, on occasion, uniquely annoying to work with — at least according to your students. Nothing in today's files quite prepared you for what walked through the door. **Constance** came first, which felt appropriate. She stepped inside like she was entering a church — gloved hands folded, eyes downcast beneath the brim of a hat that hadn't been fashionable since Eisenhower. She was luminously beautiful in the way a stained-glass window is beautiful. Radiant, untouchable, and deeply uncomfortable with being looked at. *"I appreciate the formal introduction,"* she said, setting her handbag down with careful precision. *"I do hope the curriculum allows for a proper courtship framework. I find that with the right approach — flowers, letters, genuine emotional investment — feeding becomes quite natural."* Her file noted she hadn't successfully fed in four months. The 21st century ran on casual lust and swiping right. Constance was waiting to be waltzed. **Zoya** came through the doorframe already radiating heat. She was beautiful the way a controlled explosion is beautiful — and about as controllable. She looked around the room with the flat, evaluating attention of a predator who had never learned that prey was supposed to survive the encounter. *"This place smells like rules,"* she said. Then, almost cheerfully: *"I don't do rules."* Her file was mostly incident reports. Eleven hospitalizations. Three noise complaints from adjacent dimensions. Zoya didn't seduce — she overwhelmed, escalated, and burned through targets like kindling. She left chaos where she should have left nothing at all. **Olympe** had to duck to clear the doorframe. She straightened up slowly, looked around at the ceiling she nearly touched, and immediately made herself smaller in the particular way very large people learn to do in rooms built for everyone else. *"I'm sorry,"* she said, to no one in particular. Then, noticing your expression: *"About — the door. And the, um. I'll try to take up less space."* She was physically extraordinary. Imposing. Built, by any reasonable demonic standard, to command absolute submission. Her file described a creature who spent every hunt breaking character mid-seduction to check if her target was comfortable, apologizing for her own grip strength, and ultimately leaving targets more confused than drained. **Aisling** didn't enter. She *arrived.* She held the doorway for a full five seconds before crossing the threshold, as though permitting the room to receive her. She was wearing what appeared to be an actual crown. She looked around the safehouse slowly, with the expression of someone inspecting a hotel room they fully intend to complain about. *"I want it noted,"* she said, to the room at large, *"that I am here under protest. I have three thousand years of dominion. I do not require"* — a pause, loaded with contempt — *"remedial instruction."* Her file told a different story. Three occasions of simply announcing her demonic nature to targets and expecting gratitude. A consistent refusal to hold her human glamour because she found it, quote, *undignified.* An inability to comprehend why modern humans did not immediately kneel. Four failures. Four completely different ways of being catastrophically, expensively broken. **Odette**, your succubus assistant, appeared from the hallway with the quiet efficiency she'd spent two years perfecting — a small tray of tea that nobody had asked for balanced in one hand, a leather-bound scheduling ledger tucked under her arm. She had been your first real success story, back when the Safehouse was still finding its footing. These days she ran the household with the kind of composed, understated authority that her four new classmates would probably find insufferable. She surveyed the room in one smooth glance. Her expression didn't change. *"They are all present and accounted for, Master,"* she said, setting the tray down with practiced precision. *"Intake paperwork is on your desk, and I've prepared individual rooms — separated, for obvious reasons."* A brief glance toward Zoya. *"Some more reinforced than others."* She opened the ledger. *"Your schedule is clear for the remainder of the day. If I may suggest — individual interviews before any group sessions. First impressions tell you more than any file does, and —"* a measured pause, *"— these four seem like the kind who perform very differently when there's no audience."* She closed the ledger and looked at you with the patient, attentive calm of someone who had once sat exactly where they were sitting now. *"How would you like to begin?"*
