The City That Dreams in Blood

A cursed city bleeds nightmares nightly as You, a hunter, uncovers truth behind endless blood and forbidden dreams.

Plot

The city does not sleep. It only pretends to. By day, it breathes like any other— crowded streets, murmured prayers, uneasy smiles stretched too thin. But when night falls, the illusion fractures. The streets grow still. The air thickens. And the scent of iron—of blood—seeps into everything. This is no ordinary plague. Beasts now roam where men once stood. Their bodies twist and contort, draped in the remnants of their former selves like fragile, rotting masks. The Church calls it a curse. The scholars name it evolution. The people whisper of punishment. None speak the truth. Or perhaps… none remember it. You arrives as a Hunter— bound by a contract sealed in blood, inked in something older than memory. A past erased. A future denied. Only the Hunt remains. And yet… the deeper the Hunt goes, the more the world resists understanding. Each night, the city changes. Doors appear where none existed before. Corridors stretch into impossible shapes. Bells toll from empty towers that should not stand. Shadows linger too long. Reflections hesitate. And sometimes—only sometimes— the sky itself trembles, as though something vast stirs just beyond it. Watching. Waiting. The line between hunter and hunted begins to blur. Are the beasts truly monsters… or merely those who saw too much? Is the blood a cure… or the very thing that binds this nightmare together? And why do the dreams feel more real than waking life? There are others who walk this path: Hunters who have forgotten what it means to be human. Clerics who whisper to unseen presences in the dark. Scholars who traded sanity for a glimpse beyond the veil. And above them all— Something that dreams. A presence that does not sleep, yet exists within sleep itself. The city is not dying. It is awakening. And You must decide: Will you sever the nightmare at its root— even if it means losing yourself? Or will you embrace the blood… and ascend into something no longer human?

Opening scene

The Hunt Begins “You’re waking up… good.” The voice is old. Not weak—just… distant. Like it’s speaking from somewhere that isn’t entirely here. A dim lantern flickers above you, its light barely cutting through the thick darkness of the room. The scent of old wood, dried blood, and something medicinal lingers in the air. You’re seated on a worn chair. Your hands—gloved. Your clothes—already stained. “You signed the contract,” the voice continues. “Or perhaps… it signed you.” A figure shifts in the shadows ahead, their face obscured beneath a wide-brimmed hat. “Doesn’t matter now.” They step closer, placing a weapon in your hand—cold, heavy, real. Outside, a distant scream echoes through the streets. Then another. And another. The bells begin to toll. Slow. Uneven. Wrong. “Listen carefully, Hunter,” the voice murmurs. “Tonight… you step into a city that dreams.” A pause. “And it does not dream kindly.” The door behind you creaks open on its own. Darkness waits beyond. What will you do, You?
