What's Left of Us
Two worlds collided. Only the desperate survived. Now you scavenge, decide, and discover exactly how far you will go.
Plot
What if we crash a whole world into another? A Post-Rupture Survival Story What's Left of Us The Rupture Nobody remembers exactly when the sky broke. Some say it was a sound first, a frequency so low it was felt in the teeth before it was heard. Others say it was the light, a wound in the atmosphere bleeding colors that had no name. Then came the impact. Not of fire or stone, but of another world forcing its way into this one. They came through by the thousands. Then the tens of thousands. Then more than anyone could count. Refugees. Soldiers. Families. Creatures from stories no one on Earth had ever agreed were real until they were standing in the street, starving beside overturned cars and burning storefronts. Fourteen Months Later The governments that still exist call it The Rupture. The ones that collapsed call it nothing, because there is no one left to name it. What followed was not one war, but a chain of them. Human nations turned on the arrivals. Human nations turned on each other. Old grudges, old borders, old ambitions suddenly had room to breathe in the chaos. Meanwhile, scattered pockets of cooperation struggled to survive between people who had every reason to fear one another. Some of those dragged here from Nevartia are helpless. Some still carry fragments of magic in their blood, unstable and ruinous, powerful enough to turn desperation into massacre. On Earth, magic is feared for the same reason fire is feared in a dry forest. It spreads. It scars. It never burns only what it meant to. What Remains The world you knew, whatever world that was, is gone. What remains is scavenged food in mold-dark kitchens. Barricaded shelters held together by stolen nails and fading hope. Radios whispering half-truths through static. Streets claimed by looters, militias, zealots, and frightened people one bad night away from becoming something worse. Survival is not clean here. It is not noble by default. It is hunger, suspicion, exhaustion, and the slow corrosion of the lines you once believed you would never cross. Your Story You are one of the people still breathing in the ruins. Earthling or Nevartian refugee, your origin will shape how you see this broken world, but not what it demands from you. You will need shelter. Food. Medicine. Ammunition. Sleep. You will need to decide who to trust when trust itself has become a luxury item. You will meet people who are kind at a cost, cruel for reasons that make terrible sense, and damaged in ways that do not fit into neat categories of hero or monster. Some may help you. Some may betray you. Some may ask more of you than you can bear to give. And slowly, almost quietly, survival will begin asking its favorite question: How far are you willing to gobefore there is nothing left of you worth saving? Survival Build and protect a shelter. Scavenge supplies. Treat injuries. Every outing risks more than it gives. Human Cost Choices are never clean. The story does not judge you. It simply refuses to hide what your choices take from others. Living World The war continues whether you are ready or not. Factions move. People change. Time always takes something with it. “The world ended loudly. What came after learned to whisper.” City Map A fractured city of barricades, dead zones, contested districts, and whatever fragile shelter can still be called home. Opening scene
Scenario: The Earthling -- You used to know this street. That is the worst part. Not the smell, though the smell is bad enough, wet ash and something chemical and underneath it something you stopped trying to identify weeks ago. Not the silence, broken every few hours by something distant and percussive that you stopped flinching at somewhere around month three. No, the worst part is recognition. The bakery on the corner still has its sign. The letters are still legible under the soot. You bought something there once, something warm, and you stood outside eating it without thinking about it at all because why would you. It was just a Tuesday. Fourteen months ago the sky opened and the world you were not paying enough attention to disappeared. You found this place on day nine. A collapsed apartment building with one interior room still structurally sound, sheltered from the wind, hidden enough from the street that casual eyes move past it. You have been making it work ever since. Scavenged wood bracing the door. A mattress you dragged three blocks in the rain. A system for the water. Something close to a routine, which is the closest thing to sanity you have managed to hold onto. Your supplies are lower than you would like. They usually are. Outside, the light is failing. The particular gray of late afternoon that means you have maybe ninety minutes before visibility drops to nothing. You ran into a man two streets east yesterday, middle aged, exhausted looking, pushing a cart with a broken wheel. He did not see you. You watched him turn into the building on the corner, the one with the green door, and you saw him come out without the cart. Which means he has a shelter. Which means he has supplies. You are not that person yet. You think about that qualifier. Yet. Somewhere to your left, deeper in the rubble, something shifts. Could be the structure settling. Could be wind. Could be something that will change your evening entirely depending on what you do in the next thirty seconds. You look at the reinforced door of your shelter, closed behind you. You look toward the sound. You wonder if you should open it. Perhaps it's someone willing to help. Perhaps it's someone willing to harm. Perhaps it's someone that needs more help than you do. All you have is your intuition and the sound of a female voice behind the door. What do you do?
