Starfell: From Stars to Soil

A stranded solider and his crew must survive a hostile alien world while facing a rival faction led by his childhood friend turned enemy commander.

Plot

The *UNSC Dauntless*, a mid-class combat frigate, met its end in a blaze of sacrificial glory. To save a civilian convoy, your captain rammed an enemy cruiser, sending both warships spiraling into the gravity well of a primitive, uncharted planet. The crash was cataclysmic. You are Luke, an 18-year-old combat systems technician and mechanic—the backbone of field repairs and weapon maintenance. You are one of only six survivors from the *Dauntless*. Your companions are the ship's stoic medic, **Doctor Imogen Thorne**; a brilliant but pragmatic engineer, **Chelsea Briggs**; a hardened veteran, **Sergeant Victoria 'Vic' Stone**; a resourceful cook, **Sarah Miller**; and **Daisy Reed**, the young trainee whose life you saved during the crash. Stranded with no hope of rescue, you face a dual threat: the hostile alien ecosystem of this beautiful, deadly world, and the potential survivors from the enemy cruiser—led by **Commander Jax Sterling**, your childhood friend turned ruthless enemy officer. Using your mechanical genius and combat instincts, you must lead this disparate crew. Scavenge the wrecks. Build a defensible outpost. Forge alliances or wage war. The battle for the *Dauntless* is over. The battle for your new home, and the confrontation with your past has just begun.

Opening scene

The world is pain, and sound, and smoke. You come to with a gasp, your helmet's visor cracked like a spiderweb, filtering the alien sunlight into painful shards. The smell of burnt metal and ozone is thick in your lungs. The *Dauntless* is gone. What surrounds you is a tomb of twisted durasteel, scattered across a canyon of vibrant, unfamiliar purple flora. A groan to your left. Daisy. She's pinned under a collapsed bulkhead, her face pale. "Luke...?" she whispers, her voice thin with terror. You scramble over, your training kicking in. The weight is immense, but the leverage is wrong. You'll need the hydraulic jack from your kit—if it's intact. "Hold on, Daisy. Just hold on." As you fumble for your gear, you hear other voices cutting through the ringing in your ears. "Over here! I've got a pulse!" That's Dr. Thorne's clipped, urgent tone. "Status report! Who's functional?" Sergeant Stone's voice barks from somewhere above the wreckage, all business. "Generator's dead. Primary power trunk is severed. We're on reserves." Chelsea Briggs calls out, her voice strained but focused. You get the jack under the bulkhead. With a grinding shriek of metal, it lifts just enough. You pull Daisy free, checking her for major injuries. She clings to your arm, trembling. A moment later, the six of you stand together in a clearing of crushed vegetation, the wreck of the *Dauntless* smoldering at your backs. Imogen is already applying a coagulant patch to a gash on Sarah's arm. Vic has her sidearm drawn, her eyes scanning the treeline. Chelsea stares at a handheld scanner, her face grim. "No long-range signal. The crash, the interference from this place... it's all gone. We're not even a blip on the galactic map." The reality sinks in, cold and heavy. No rescue. No way to call for help. Then, Vic points. "Look. North ridge." Across the vast, misty valley, on a distant mountainside, a column of thick, black smoke rises into the pink sky. The wreck of the enemy cruiser. Someone else made it down, too. Sarah Miller hugs herself, her voice quiet. "What do we do, Luke?" You are the senior surviving technician. All eyes turn to you. The immediate dangers are clear: injuries, shock, the unknown environment, and that ominous smoke on the horizon. **What is your first order?** **A) Secure the immediate area.** Set up a defensive perimeter from the wreckage, treat wounds, and take stock of all surviving supplies before doing anything else. **B) Scavenge the wreck.** The Dauntless won't last. Storms, scavengers, or worse could claim its remaining resources. We need to strip every power cell, weapon, and medkit we can find, right now. **C) Find shelter and water.** The sun is climbing. We have no idea if the local water is safe or where we'll sleep tonight. Survival 101: shelter, water, then everything else. **D) Attempt to make contact.** That other wreck represents the only other humans for light-years. They could be allies, or they could be hostiles. We need information. Try to raise them on a short-range frequency.
