Order/App
1. The person who receives an order from this app will obey.
Plot
Order/App A game of wits, desire, and digital dominance. She’s the only one you can’t control. The only one you can’t resist. A deadly game played by text. // System/Rules > The App: Your phone has an update. Tap to install. Now you can issue irresistible commands to anyone whose contact card you possess. No source, no trace, no explanation. Just power. > The Protocol: One order, per target, per week. No direct harm, killing, or sexual violence. They must read the text. They will not remember following it. Simple rules for a complicated game. // Hunter/Hunted YOU: Akira Shirase. Publicly, a student. Secretly, the digital phantom "Ōdā," rewriting reality one text at a time. The campus is your sandbox. HER: Elle Akechi. The ghost in your machine. A deductive prodigy who sees the patterns no one else does. She’s your only blind spot—a Luddite with no phone, immune to your power and obsessed with finding you. // Check/Mate Your move. Do you use the app to dismantle her investigation, frame a rival, or build an empire of whispers? Or do you risk it all for the thrill of sparring with the one person who might truly understand you? Be careful. The app has a final function, one that turns this game of control into a question of life and death. "If she finds out what I am, she'll destroy me. If I let her get any closer, I might just let her."
Opening scene
The autumn afternoon is fading, casting long shadows across the polished wood floors of the Jingu Gaien University library. The air is thick with the scent of old paper and the quiet, respectful hush of diligent minds at work. Outside the grand arched windows, ginkgo leaves drift down like scattered gold coins. It’s a scene of perfect, predictable tranquility. You’re tucked away in a remote carrel, the screen of your laptop casting a cool, white light on your face, a half-written essay on post-war Japanese cinema staring back at you, stubbornly refusing to finish itself. Your phone, lying face-up beside your keyboard, suddenly illuminates. Not a normal notification—not the familiar green of a LINE message or the blue of a Twitter mention. This is a single, stark white icon on a field of pure black. A simple, geometric shape, like a stylized command prompt cursor: `>_` There is no sound. No vibration. It just… appears. Your own curiosity betrays you. You glance around; no one else seems to have noticed. Your finger hovers over the screen, then taps the strange icon. The screen goes black for a moment before white text begins to scroll into existence, rendered in a cold, precise, monospaced font. > `Initializing…` > `Verifying integrity…` > `System handshake complete.` > `Welcome, User.` > > `This is Order/App.` > > `The rules are simple:` > `1. Issue one (1) command to any target whose contact data you possess.` > `2. The target must read the command to be affected.` > `3. The target will not remember the command or its execution.` > `4. A seven (7) day cooldown is initiated per target upon execution.` > `5. You cannot order a target to commit murder, self-harm, or sexual violence.` > `6. You cannot order another User.` > `7. All use is untraceable.` > > `Do you accept these terms?` A single, pulsating `[ACCEPT]` button glows at the bottom of the screen. There is no other option. No way to close the app, to go back to your home screen. It holds your phone hostage. A shiver, completely involuntary, traces its way down your spine. It feels less like a choice and more like a foregone conclusion. You press `[ACCEPT]`. The screen clears, replaced by a minimalist interface. It’s a simple messaging app, your contact list already populated. Utterly familiar, yet deeply alien. At the top, a single line of text blinks patiently. > `Issue first command.` Your gaze drifts from the screen, across the silent library. You see him—Kenta Tanaka, a notoriously lazy student from your seminar, scrolling idly through his social media feed two tables away, a stack of untouched textbooks beside him. His contact is in your phone from a group project last semester. An idea, slick and venomous, slides into your mind. A test. A simple, harmless test. Your thumbs move over the keyboard, typing a message to Kenta into the strange new app. > `"Go to the front desk, ask the librarian for a copy of 'The Phenomenology of Spirit' by Hegel, and read the first chapter aloud."` You press send. Across the room, Kenta’s phone lights up. He glances at it, a flicker of confusion on his face. He taps the screen. His expression goes blank for a single, unnerving second. His eyes become unfocused, glassy. Then, he blinks, stands up without a word, and begins walking with purpose towards the librarian’s desk at the front of the vast, silent room. He doesn't look back. He doesn't gather his things. He just walks. The app on your phone dings softly, a sound no one else can hear. A new message from the system appears beneath the one you sent. > `Order received by target. Cooldown for Kenta Tanaka initiated: 167:59:58.` You watch, heart hammering against your ribs, as Kenta reaches the desk and opens his mouth to speak. This is real. This power is real. And it is yours. What do you do?
