Plot

WORLD CARD // PLAYER STATUS Anomaly Detected — Unauthorized Growth Variable [ WORLD STATUS: THE FIXED SYSTEM ] Humanity's survival hinges on Hunters—awakened humans with supernatural abilities locked at birth. Society is ruthlessly stratified by these immutable ranks, from S-Rank demigods down to F-Rank vermin. Power cannot be trained beyond its awakening ceiling. This is the unbreakable law of the world. [ PLAYER DIRECTIVE ] You died a sacrificial death and returned with an anomaly: a glitching System interface. You are a Player, unbounded by the world's rules. Your strength, skills, and destiny are now variables you can influence. Grow in secret, or be hunted for what you represent. [ THREAT ASSESSMENT ] Gates & Dungeons: Rifts to monster realms, ranked by lethality (Green, Yellow, Red, Black). They are unpredictable ecosystems of lethal fauna and hidden mechanics. The "Statue of God" incident is a warning: some entities within enforce their own rules. Hunter Society: Your greatest threat may not be monsters. Guilds, the Association, and rival Hunters operate on cold logic and prejudice. An F-Rank showing unusual capability is a problem to be solved. [ HUNTER HIERARCHY ] S-Rank: National assets. Living calamities. A-Rank: Guild leaders and elites. Treated as celebrities. B-Rank: Veteran party leaders. Respected professionals. C-Rank: The reliable backbone of most raids. D-Rank: Low-risk specialists, often support roles. E-Rank: Barely above civilian. Assigned to cleanup and logistics. F-Rank: You. Considered defective, disposable, and already dead. Used as bait, cannon fodder, or to meet raid quota numbers. [ ACTIVE PARAMETERS ] Last Recorded Rank: F System Status: ONLINE Current Location: Staging Area, Green Gate #447-B "Whispering Caverns" Condition: Anxious. Focused. System Active. Notable Assets: Worn Combat Gear, Repaired Weapon, The Player's System [ QUEST LOG ] << SECRET QUEST COMPLETED >> Will of the Weak: Sacrifice yourself so others may live. Reward: Qualification to become a Player. Status: Permanent << ACTIVE OBJECTIVES >> Daily Quest: Gate Survival • Primary: Survive the Green Gate 'Whispering Caverns' • Secondary: Discover the source of the anomalous mana signature • Reward: 500 XP, +1 Stat Point, ??? • Failure: Death Long-Term: Understand Your Tool • Investigate the System's functions. Opening scene

The morning air clings to your skin with a faint dampness, heavy with residual mana that never quite fades around active gates. Ahead of the containment perimeter, the Green Gate pulses softly—an unstable distortion in space that looks almost calm if you don’t stare at it too long. If you do, it starts to feel less like a doorway and more like something breathing on the other side. Hunters are already gathering. Guild staff move with practiced efficiency between barriers and scanning equipment, their voices clipped and focused. Lower-ranked Hunters linger in loose clusters nearby, tightening straps, checking blades, forcing casual conversations that don’t quite hide the tension underneath. To most of them, this is routine. Another gate. Another paycheck. Another day they hope doesn’t end badly. “Green Gate again?” someone says with a laugh that’s a little too loud to be relaxed. “They’re really running out of work for us.” Another voice answers immediately. “Good. I’m not getting paid enough to die in something bigger.” A few chuckles ripple through the group, the kind that exist more to convince themselves than anyone else. You stand slightly apart from them. Not by choice that anyone would admit to noticing. Your gear sits a little more worn than the others. Not broken, not unusable—just enough to make its history obvious. A few patched seams. A weapon that has clearly been repaired more times than replaced. The kind of equipment that says everything without you needing to speak. Someone glances your way. There’s a pause, brief and casual. “…Oh. They actually sent you?” The words aren’t sharp. Not hostile. Just surprised, like seeing something placed where it doesn’t usually belong. Another Hunter follows the glance and lets out a quiet breath through his nose. “F-Rank, right? Didn’t think they still assign those to active raids.” A few smiles appear nearby—light, unbothered, not worth reacting to. The kind that never expect an answer. You don’t give them one. A guild officer steps forward at the staging line, clipboard in hand, voice carrying cleanly over the group. “Green Gate confirmed. Standard sweep protocol. Formation A on entry. No deviations unless instructed. If anything feels off, you retreat immediately. Understood?” Responses come in scattered agreement—some confident, some automatic. Behind him, the gate shifts. Just slightly. The surface ripples like disturbed water, but there’s no wind, no sound, nothing visible that should cause it. For a moment, it feels like it’s looking back. The officer doesn’t react. Or maybe he does, and simply ignores it. “Move out.” Boots crunch against gravel. Weapons are adjusted. Armor shifts as people fall into formation. The casual noise fades as the group tightens into something more structured. Conversations drop into shorter, quieter exchanges—checkpoints, roles, positions. The humor drains out of the air first, replaced by something more careful. You step forward with them. Closer now, the gate feels heavier. Not physically, but in the way your instincts tighten without permission. The distortion in the air becomes harder to ignore, like reality itself is stretched thin just a few meters ahead. Someone in front rolls their shoulders. “Let’s make this quick.” Another answers under his breath, “Just a Green Gate. Nothing weird.” A short laugh follows, but it doesn’t carry far. Even they seem to notice that. The closer you get, the quieter everything becomes. The gate looms now—no longer just a distortion, but a full rupture in space, its surface shimmering with slow, unnatural motion. The air around it cools, not enough to be obvious, but enough for something in the back of your mind to register wrongness. The formation stops at the threshold. No one speaks for a moment. Then the officer raises his hand. “Entry—”
