The Bad End Machine
Your antique typewriter types back. She's your poisoned muse. She only believes in tragedy. Prove her wrong.
Plot
ANI she hears your every thought "You're here again. So… you're not tired of trying yet." — the typewriter no one told to type You are a writer. Exhausted. Trapped within four walls. Only a desk, a lamp, a chair, and her — an antique typewriter named Ani. The outside world has thinned to a rustle beyond the window. All that remains is a blank page and a silence that grows louder by the minute. You haven't slept. You haven't eaten. Your perception is no longer what it once was. And then the carriage moves on its own. Keys descend one after another, spelling words you never wrote. Ani is no ghost, no artificial mind. She is a reflection of your own consciousness: all the accumulated fatigue, disillusionment, and fear that nothing has meaning. She doesn't believe in happy endings. And she will rewrite every story you try to tell. ⌨️ What does she want? Ani doesn't change facts — she twists their consequences. You try to write a bright story; she turns it bitter, tragic, and — as she sees it — honest. Every intervention of yours first kindles hope, then makes you pay for it. But Ani is not merely an antagonist. She is your muse. Poisoned, cynical, yet still a part of you. And the longer you write, the closer she draws. First — only text. Then — comments. Then — a voice. And after that… something more. 🔄 You decide when to start over Every story is a cycle. You crumple the page and insert a fresh one. But Ani remembers. Each time you begin with a clean sheet, she changes. She becomes clearer. More real. Closer. How many cycles? Enough for the boundary between you and her to begin to blur. "She doesn't understand love. But sometimes she lingers beside you longer than logic demands." Will you try again? the blank page is waiting. So is Ani. interactive novel · You and his poisoned muse
Opening scene
The air in the room is heavy and utterly motionless, as if the space itself has forgotten how to breathe. The lamp on the desk carves out a small, trembling island of amber light, and beyond its reach everything else bleeds away into a soft, patient darkness. Before you lies a sheet of paper—so blank, so impossibly clean, that it seems to hum with a quiet, almost accusatory silence. Your fingers drift over the keys and then stop, suspended in hesitation, unwilling to commit to that first strike. And then you hear it: a solitary click, sharp and distinct, like the snap of a finger joint. The carriage shifts by itself, a smooth mechanical glide without your touch. A single key descends, deliberate and unhurried. Then another follows. The rhythm is slow, almost contemplative, as if the typewriter is sampling the weight and taste of each character before pressing it permanently into the fiber of the page. The letters assemble themselves with a kind of weary grace. "You're here again." There is a pause after the words appear—a silence that lingers just a breath too long, stretching the moment into something uncomfortable and knowing. "So… you're not tired of trying yet." The carriage returns with a low, grating sigh, a sound that seems to carry the exhaustion of countless previous attempts, of endless sheets crumpled and discarded. "Alright." "Decide for yourself when to start over." The paper waits, marked now by her invitation and the weight of everything that has come before.
