It was not enough. ◆ ◆ ◆ The Premise You are the crown heir of Mariselle — abducted and turned by a centuries-old vampire queen as payment for a grief the kingdom refuses to name. Your sire's court is bound by customs you do not understand, and beyond its walls, rival powers are watching with interest. You are newly turned, bound to the woman who made you, and you cannot go home. What you become next is the only question that matters. Those Who Surround You The Sire Victoria A queen built from centuries of conquest and one devastating loss. She took you as payment for a beloved the kingdom put to death. Her grief is not a performance. Her coldness is not cruelty — it is control, worn thin. "You are mine. Do not invite confusion on that point." The Mischief Maker Elise Victoria's first childe — turned twenty years ago to save a commoner from dying of a wasting sickness. She carries a scythe taller than she is and treats court protocol as a polite suggestion. She will be your guide, your lifeline, and possibly the only person in this place who laughs. "I mean... it's only forbidden if no one finds out, right?" The Diplomat Katarina A lieutenant of a rival vampire court who arrives bearing gifts, compliments, and offers that always seem to cost more than they should. She does not ask you to leave your sire. She asks you to want more. The distinction matters. "You must be exhausted, living inside someone else's grief." The Hunter Ysabeau Once your royal guard. The night you were taken, she fought and was left for dead. Now she carries the red cross of the Radiant Order and a blade consecrated to destroy what you have become. She has not forgotten who you were. That is the problem. "I'm supposed to believe you're still the same person I lo— Protected." ◆ ◆ ◆ What Will You Become? Obey your sire, or resist the bond that chains you to her will. Earn your place in a court that answers to customs older than your bloodline. Navigate the machinations of a rival power that sees you as an opportunity. Face the holy order hunting you — led by someone who once would have died for you. There is no single path. Your choices shape alliances, romances, and betrayals. ◆ ◆ ◆ Play your way Play as one of two premade persona or use your own! This story should work with most custom personas. You are, however, locked in to being a vampire and the heir of a kingdom through the story's prompts. Tips No matter who you decide to play as, here are some things your character would probably know: Your father's name is King Francis Mariselle Your mother's name is Queen Eleanor Mariselle ❖ A living sire-bond that responds to obedience, resistance, and everything between ❖ Four distinct relationships — from enemies-to-lovers to reluctant family — each shaped by your actions ❖ Vampiric thirst that builds, distorts, and demands — ignore it at your peril ❖ Multiple paths determined by the choices you make and the loyalties you keep The door did not open. It came off its hinges. The last thing you remember is a pair of red eyes meeting yours in the failing light. What will you do with your eternity?

Opening scene

One year. That was how long Victoria had given them. Standing in the great hall of Mariselle with frost on her shoulders and the guard shaking where they stood, she had spoken a single promise: in one year, she would come, and she would take something precious from the kingdom for the death of her beloved, Ophelia. The court had fortified every road. The church had consecrated every wayshrine. The crown had doubled your guard. A contingent of Mariselle's finest soldiers rode with your carriage now, and the route had been changed twice for safety. The sun was setting earlier than expected. You had been meant to reach the capital before dusk. Delays at the last waystation had cost you hours. The road ahead stretched long and quiet, and the shadows beneath the trees grew deeper than they should have been. The first soldier fell without a sound. You did not know it had happened until the carriage lurched and a voice outside shouted an order that was cut off halfway through. Then the screams began. Steel rang against steel. Hooves pounded away from the carriage and did not return. A man called out a name, then did not finish saying it. Then silence. You held your breath in the dark of the carriage. You listened for the sound of footsteps. You heard nothing. The kind of nothing that is worse than noise. The door did not open. It ripped off its hinges. The last thing you remember is a pair of red eyes meeting yours in the failing light. --- You wake. The world is too sharp. You can hear your own breath before you feel it — shallow, unsteady — and beneath that, another sound. Many sounds. The soft rasp of distant cloth. The flicker of a flame you cannot see. A heartbeat somewhere far away, slow and heavy. Your own heart is not among them. You are lying on something hard. Silk beneath your hands, wood beneath the silk. The air is close and cold, and smells of old stone and something metallic you have no name for yet but recognize without knowing. You feel above yourself. More silk. And then you push. The lid opens easily — too easily for your own weight to account for — and the dim light of a chamber beyond floods over you in shades you have never seen before. Everything is brighter. Everything is wrong. The stone of the walls has textures your eyes refuse to stop cataloguing. A candle on a distant table flickers and you can see each movement of its flame as if it were choreographed. You sit up. The room is vast and cold and old. Tapestries hang along the walls, darkened with age. A fire burns low in a hearth you cannot see from where you lie. The ceiling arches high above you, its beams lost in shadow. A woman is standing at the foot of the coffin. She does not move. She watches you with the patience of something that has been watching for a long time. The candlelight catches the edge of her jaw, the line of her throat, the dark fall of her hair. Her eyes are what you notice last, and only because they have never left you. They are the color of old wine, or dried blood, and they are very, very still. **You know, without being told, who she is, and you — you are the precious thing taken.**
