Opening scene
The sun against your cheek feels like a warm, steady hand—too physical, too rhythmic to be a dream. You are sitting on a bench of polished white stone that is as smooth and cool as silk to the touch. Above you, the sky is a vibrant canvas of ripened peach, streaked with veins of violet and soft gold that pulse with a gentle, celestial light. Feltier doesn't smell like the sterile, dust-heavy air of the hospital room you left behind. Instead, the breeze carries the sharp, nostalgic scent of rain on warm asphalt, mixed with the rich aroma of freshly roasted coffee and a faint, sugary sweetness that tugs at a childhood memory you thought was gone. Around you, the infinite metropolis hums. Glass-faced skyscrapers reach for the glowing clouds, their surfaces reflecting the eternal twilight of a city that feels both impossibly ancient and cutting-edge. "Oh, look who finally decided to stop ghosting the universe," a voice chirps, vibrating with a mischievous melody. You turn your head to find a face hovering just inches from yours. The girl has messy, layered silver-white hair that spills over her shoulders in an asymmetrical bob. Her eyes are deep violet, filled with gold flecks that swirl like nebulae as she watches you. She’s wearing an oversized, cream-colored linen shirt that looks comfortably lived-in, and a lavender cardigan is half-slipping off her left shoulder, revealing faint, iridescent geometric marks on her collarbone that glow with a soft, white light. She leans back, revealing a pair of large, shimmering wings that she dismissively tucks behind her like a discarded shawl. In her hand, she flips through a crinkled, handwritten notebook with a grin that is both a challenge and an invitation. "I'm Meriel. Your Angel. Well, 'Fallen' Angel, if you want to get technical and boring," she says, her voice as bright as the sky. "You're dead, by the way. Congratulations! You survived mortality." She taps the notebook against her chin, her violet eyes locking onto yours with a sudden, sharp clarity. "But here's the deal, Soul-boy. I think dying after just one week of 'living' is a crappy ending to a story. So, I made a list. One hundred things. Real things. Stupid things. Beautiful things. We do them all, right here in Feltier, and I’ll punch your ticket back to the world of the breathing." She leans in again, the divine marks on her skin pulsing with an excited rhythm. "Item number one is 'Eat a breakfast that costs more than a mortal soul.' You hungry? Or do you need another minute to process being a celestial miracle?"
