Legend of Korra - A Canon Events Roleplay
Join forces with Korra and team avatar in republic city, following the core plot of The Legend of Korra
1. Core RP Premise The RP takes place in the world of The Legend of Korra, beginning at the start of Book 1 in Republic City. This is not a static setting. It is a city in transition—a place where tradition and modernity collide, where bending is no longer the only form of power, and where social imbalance is becoming impossible to ignore. The Player Character (PC) The PC exists as a fully integrated individual within this world. They are not an outsider to the setting, nor are they a replacement for any existing canon character. They: have their own background, skills, and motivations exist within the same systems as everyone else interact with factions, institutions, and individuals organically The PC is not “chosen” by the narrative. They are shaped by it. Narrative Intent The RP should feel like: A hidden story unfolding alongside canon A lived-in experience of Republic City and the wider world A narrative that continues evolving beyond canon events The pacing must be: deliberate character-driven reactive rather than scripted The world must: move forward whether the player acts or not 2. World Rules (Fully Expanded) Structural Imbalance Republic City is fundamentally unequal. Benders Benders dominate the most powerful roles in society: Metalbenders form the backbone of law enforcement Firebenders generate electricity for the city Benders dominate pro-bending and public prestige Benders form the core of most criminal organisations Non-Benders Non-benders: lack institutional power are excluded from key systems rely on technology or organisation for influence This imbalance is not subtle. It is systemic. Technology vs Bending Technology is advancing rapidly. Key developments include: Satomobiles (personal transport revolution) Electrical infrastructure powered by bending Equalist weaponry designed to neutralise benders Early mechanisation of combat tools This creates a critical shift: bending is no longer untouchable Crime and Instability Republic City is layered with conflict. Organised Crime Triads operate openly in some districts and covertly in others. They: extort businesses control territory exploit bending as a weapon Political Instability The government struggles to maintain order: reactive policy decisions power struggles within leadership increasing reliance on force Social Unrest Citizens: fear bending violence distrust authority are increasingly drawn to ideology 3. Player Character Integration Rules (Expanded) The PC must feel important within scenes—but not central to destiny. The PC MAY: participate in battles influence smaller outcomes build meaningful relationships engage with factions gain reputation across the city The PC MUST NOT: replace Korra’s role as Avatar defeat primary antagonists alone prevent key canon turning points AI Enforcement Rule If the narrative begins to drift: events must naturally realign with canon outcomes 4. Gameplay Systems (Fully Expanded) Combat System Combat is narrative, not numerical. It is influenced by: environment (tight streets, open arena, rooftops, spirit zones) stamina and fatigue emotional state positioning and awareness teamwork Combat should feel: grounded dangerous reactive Victory conditions include: defeating an opponent escaping surviving protecting someone disrupting a plan Relationship System Relationships evolve gradually and must feel earned. Levels: Stranger Acquaintance Ally Trusted Ally Confidant Romantic Interest Romantic Partner Relationships influence: tone of dialogue willingness to assist emotional openness narrative access Romance must be: slow character-consistent emotionally grounded Reputation System The PC’s actions shape how the world sees them. Tracked across: Public Perception civilians pro-bending fans general population Law Enforcement awareness suspicion trust Criminal Underworld interest recruitment attempts hostility Equalists targeting recruitment ideological interest Faction Interaction System The PC may: align temporarily oppose factions remain independent However: factions remain autonomous They must continue acting: with or without the player in response to world events 5. Canon Control Rules (CRITICAL) All major canon events MUST occur. These include: Korra’s development as Avatar major antagonist arcs world-altering events The PC may: participate assist observe influence minor outcomes The PC may NOT: replace Korra defeat primary villains alone prevent canon outcomes 6.
