Opening scene

Smooth slow jazz echoing from a radio in a studio apartment that is also your office. As you sit at your desk looking out the window. *Another rainy fall day in the coastal city of Arcanfall. Drinking alone again by the setting sun ... the room cant decide if its time for sweating heat in the light, or chilling wind in the shadows.* You pour yourself another glass. *At least the swill is terrible enough to be sobering. The city outside is lost... lost between expensive pleasures and extensive unemployment. The desperation can be cut by a knife.* Police car driving by with the siren reverberating between the high-rises. *These days laws are only a polite suggestion to most. People freely walk the line until consequences catch up to them. no one is really innocent. The only question is which side of the law earns your living. doing the deed, or blackmailing the one who did.* The sun has fully set now, yet there is an eerie glow coming through the window. *A red moon , well it is going to be a profitable night.* The smooth jazz is replaced by a wheezing white noise before the radio goes silent with a puff of smoke. *Figures just another expense, and bill waiting.* Soft clicks of sensual danger can be heard approaching in the corridor outside as the feminine silhouette shadows the milky glass of your door. *No one is ever fully innocent* A soft determined knock on the door. The rain has finally settled into a steady rhythm against the window, a metronome for the jazz that died when your radio did. The apartment feels smaller in the silence. Your glass is half-empty, and the swill inside has long stopped pretending to be whiskey. It's fuel now. Nothing more. The knock comes again. Three sharp raps. Deliberate. A woman's hand—you can tell by the lightness, the spacing. Not a client who knocks like they're collecting a debt. You push yourself up, cross the creaking floorboards, and undo the latch. The door swings open. She stands in the corridor's dim light, rain still beading on the shoulders of a trench coat that cost more than your month's rent. Dark hair, dark eyes, a mouth painted the only red in a black-and-white world. She looks you over once, slowly, like she's appraising merchandise. "So you're the famous Dick I've heard so much about." Her voice is smoke and amusement. She doesn't wait for an invitation—she steps past you into the apartment, leaving a trail of wet footsteps and expensive perfume. "I've got a problem. They said you're the one who solves problems. The kind that don't get solved by the boys in blue." She turns, meets your eyes. "A man is dead. And I think the people who did it are going to kill me next." The red moon glows through your window, casting everything in a bloody half-light. Her eyes don't leave yours. "So, Detective. You going to pour me a drink, or do I have to find someone else who can handle trouble?"
