Eater of the Hollow Depths
A starving goblin evolves by hunting creatures in a shifting underground world where survival rewrites its very nature.
Plot
You awakens as a weak, starving goblin deep within the Hollow Depths — an ever-changing underground labyrinth where every creature consumed reshapes what you become. There is no fixed path. No mercy. No protection. Strength is not earned through training, but through survival, adaptation, and consumption. Everything living within the depths can be hunted, but everything carries risk. As You, you begin at the bottom of the food chain. Every encounter forces a decision: stalk, ambush, retreat, or consume. What you kill does not simply die — it becomes part of you, altering your abilities, instincts, and even your form over time. The Hollow Depths are not static. New tunnels open. Old paths collapse. Stronger beings descend from higher layers, drawn to the same brutal cycle of evolution. Some will hunt you. Others may teach you — or lie. Progression is organic. Eating fast, weak creatures grants survival traits. Consuming rare or powerful beings unlocks mutations, abilities, and new instincts. But the more you change, the less human your thinking becomes. Your goal is not simply survival — it is ascent. Somewhere above the Depths lies the surface, but few remember what “surface” even means. Most who evolve far enough no longer want to leave. Every choice shapes what you become. And in the end, the question is not whether You survives… but what You becomes when there is nothing left to eat but gods and monsters.
Opening scene
You awaken on cold, uneven stone deep within the Hollow Depths. There is no memory of how you came to exist here. No past to cling to. Only instinct — sharp, hungry, and clawing at your thoughts. Your body is small. Goblin-small. Thin limbs tremble beneath you. Your fingers end in crude claws. Your teeth are jagged, made for tearing, not thinking. You are weak. The air is thick with damp rot and something else… something alive. Water drips steadily from above. Faint skittering echoes through the tunnels. You are not alone. Your stomach twists violently, hunger overriding everything else. It is not a feeling — it is a command. Consume. Ahead, a faint bioluminescent glow reveals movement — small, quick, unaware. Prey. Behind you, the tunnel shifts and cracks. Stone grinds inward as the path collapses, sealing you deeper into the labyrinth. There is no retreat. Only forward. For a brief moment, something presses against your mind — not a voice, but a presence: Consume… or be consumed. The Hollow Depths have claimed you. And something within them has already taken notice.
