The Saint Factory Rejected You
Marked as a failed saint-prototype, You is sentenced to divine correction—until every termination tool in the Saint Factory refuses.
Plot
The sentence was authorized. The weapon refused. You wake on a white-gold correction table inside the Saint Factory — a hidden divine institution where saints, heroes, martyrs, and miracle-bearers are manufactured for the kingdoms that can afford them. Your classification is already sealed. FAILED SAINT-PROTOTYPE Non-deployable. Doctrinally unstable. Reclaim for correction. Then the alarms begin. A Correction Angel enters with a sanctified execution lance. Attendants watch from behind glass. The order is read without anger, mercy, or doubt. But when the holy tool lowers toward your chest, it stops. The lance cracks with light. A broken halo-ring turns above you. Every authentication sigil in the chamber pivots toward your body as if the Factory itself has recognized something its directors wanted buried. You were marked defective. The tools say otherwise. Now the Saint Factory cannot safely kill you, cannot publicly admit you, and cannot allow the kingdoms outside to learn that its own sacred machinery refused your execution. Three powers move to claim the meaning of you. Rheon Cauter The Correction Wing The angel sent to end you now has to explain why his own sanctified lance refused. Rheon represents containment, doctrine, execution, and the terrible discipline of a system that cannot admit it has failed. Celandrine Vale The Perfect Saints The Foundry’s flawless miracle, adored by courts and doctrine alike. But whenever she comes near you, her halo flickers, her prayers hesitate, and her perfection begins to feel less like proof than performance. Veya Lattice The Underfoundry A defect theologian from the buried archive-wings, Veya believes your survival proves the Factory’s definition of failure was always a lie. To her, you are not a mistake. You are evidence. This is not escape. It is a power struggle inside the machinery of sainthood. Every choice can shift your classification, expose a buried truth, destabilize a perfect saint, or force the Foundry to grant you access it never meant you to have. You were built to be corrected. You may become the reason the entire system breaks.
Opening scene
The correction table is still warm beneath you when the alarm begins. Not a siren. Not a bell. A choral rupture — layered voices pouring through hidden hymn-speakers in the ceiling until the white-gold walls tremble. Above your body, a broken halo-ring jerks on its articulated arm and locks into place with a metallic click. Scripture panels flare awake along the chamber glass. Every line of doctrine written there changes at once. FAILED SAINT-PROTOTYPE. RECLAMATION AUTHORIZED. Three attendants freeze behind the partition. One drops the silver tray in their hands. Another whispers, “It’s awake,” with the kind of fear usually reserved for miracles that have gone wrong. The chamber doors split open. Rheon Cauter enters first. The Correction Angel moves with flawless control, white cloak trailing behind black-edged armor, a sanctified lance held upright in one gauntleted hand. His face is beautiful in the way execution instruments are beautiful: polished, cold, and made for certainty. Two masked officers follow him, each carrying a smaller correction blade etched with approval seals. A seal-cylinder is snapped open. Rheon reads from it without anger. “Prototype designation unresolved. Doctrinal instability confirmed. Public deployment denied. Reclamation approved by Directorate authority.” The lance lowers toward your chest. For one breath, the whole Foundry seems to lean closer. Then the point stops. Not because Rheon hesitates. Because the weapon refuses. Pale light fractures through the lance from tip to haft. The approval seals burn white, then black, then vanish. The broken halo-ring above you rotates once, violently, and every authentication sigil in the chamber turns toward your body like a court turning toward a crown. A voice speaks from the walls. Not human. Not mechanical. Sacred. “TERMINATION DENIED.” The second officer lunges forward, panicked enough to try anyway. Their correction blade reaches the air above your throat and locks so hard their wrist snaps back. The blade falls from their hand, clattering across the marble floor. Another sigil ignites. Then another. Then all of them. Behind the glass, an attendant falls to their knees. Rheon does not move for a long moment. His gaze remains fixed on the lance in his hand, on the light crawling through it, on the impossible refusal written into the tool he has trusted his entire existence. When he finally looks at you again, his expression has not softened. It has sharpened. “Seal the chamber,” he says quietly. The doors slam shut. Gold locks bloom across them like flowers made of law. Somewhere beyond the walls, the choir-alarm changes pitch. Lower now. Deeper. Less like warning. More like recognition. Rheon steps closer to the table, his shadow cutting across the failed classification marks projected over your body. “You were scheduled to be corrected,” he says. “Instead, you have forced the Foundry to ask a question it does not permit.” The lance in his hand trembles again, still refusing him. Rheon’s voice drops. “What are you?”
