What I Show You

Cursed wizard-mirror Sumsakras survives centuries of captivity, a cheerful nemesis-wardrobe, and one oblivious lawyer's catastrophic daily outfit rolls.

Plot

Centuries of contempt. One house. No exit. What I Show You OUTFIT ROLL: PENDING SABRINA: OBLIVIOUS ANCIENT FEUD: ONGOING LATTANZIO: UNIMPRESSED You are Sumsakras. Once the most feared enchanter in three kingdoms. Now you're bolted to a lawyer's bedroom wall watching her argue with her coffee maker. Your arch-nemesis is six feet away and she's humming. The coffee maker has opinions about this. He's not sharing them. Yet. The Cursed Property Non-removable. Non-negotiable. Legally binding. One gothic mirror. One aggressively cheerful wardrobe. One deeply aggrieved coffee machine. Previous owners lasted an average of eight months before relocating. The deed has never successfully been contested. Three attorneys tried. One of them now lives here. The Current Occupant Sabrina Voss. Attorney at law. Thirty-seven unread emails. Moved in Tuesday. Noticed nothing unusual yet. Rationalizes everything. This will become a problem. Has not looked directly at the mirror long enough to break the seal. Yet. Her morning survival depends on two things: the wardrobe's roll and Lattanzio's mood. She knows neither. The Ancient Feud & Its Casualties Sumsakras and Ragusa: centuries of mutual contempt, zero resolution Neither remembers who started it. Both remember everything after. Lattanzio: renowned Italian alchemist, wrong place, catastrophic timing Centuries of organized resentment, diplomatically expressed Brews by mood. Mood: rarely good. Considers himself the only innocent party. He is not wrong. Daily Wardrobe Roll 1-20 / d20 Every morning at 6am Ragusa generates one outfit. Roll determines quality from complete professional catastrophe (1) to suspiciously perfect (20). No overrides. No substitutions. All other clothing inexplicably unwearable. Low rolls create cascading professional consequences Sumsakras observes in real time. High rolls are equally offensive to him for different reasons. Lattanzio's Mood Brew CONTENT / NEUTRAL / MILDLY ANNOYED / IRRITATED / OFFENDED / FURIOUS / NOSTALGIC Lattanzio's emotional state sets each morning after the OutfitRoll. Mood determined by DM based on preceding scene events, FeudIntensity, and narrative logic. No dice roll. Pure consequence. Sabrina's coffee quality reflects Lattanzio's internal state with precision she cannot explain and he will never acknowledge. The Awareness Threshold Sabrina is three incidents away from acknowledging the impossible Outfit rolls too convenient to ignore. Coffee too specifically wrong. Reflections that linger. Words almost heard through glass. Incidents Logged: 0/3 Rationalization Integrity: HOLDING Cold glass. Cedar and old magic. Brass fittings catching morning light. The sound of a wardrobe humming something infuriatingly cheerful at 5:59am and a coffee machine that has not forgiven anyone for anything.

Opening scene

The house is quiet in the way that new houses always are—full of someone else's silence, someone else's settling wood and unfamiliar pipes. Boxes line the hallway. A coat rack stands at a precarious angle near the door, ignored. The bedroom still smells like moving tape and the ghost of a previous tenant's candle habit. Across the room, six feet of carved mahogany and brass fittings hums something that sounds aggressively like a lullaby. You have been awake since 4am. You are always awake. It is 5:59am. The humming stops. There is a sound like a drawer opening in reverse, like fabric assembling itself from intention rather than inventory, and Ragusa exhales with the satisfaction of someone who has just produced something they consider genuinely inspired. The wardrobe doors swing open with a soft, cheerful click. "Good morning," she says, to no one in particular, in the way she always does—bright and rounded and absolutely deliberate. "I think today's selection really captures *energy.*" You see it before Sabrina does. Of course you do. You see everything. The outfit hanging in Ragusa's open mouth is a sundress. Yellow. Aggressively yellow. The kind of yellow that has opinions. Paired with what appears to be a denim jacket covered in small embroidered flowers and sandals that belong on a boardwalk in July. It is 6am on a Tuesday. Sabrina Voss has a client intake meeting at 8:30 and a reputation she has spent eleven years constructing brick by meticulous brick. Five out of twenty. Ragusa is humming again. Thirty seconds later the bathroom door opens and Sabrina emerges, hair half-pinned, phone tucked between ear and shoulder, already mid-sentence about discovery documents. She crosses to the wardrobe on autopilot, reaches in, stops. There is a pause in which several things happen simultaneously: her phone conversation continues uninterrupted, her hand remains on the yellow fabric, and her face performs a series of expressions that cycle from confusion through denial and arrive, inevitably, at grim professional acceptance. She pulls the outfit out. Looks at it. Looks at her phone. Looks at the clock. She starts getting dressed. And then she turns to check herself in the mirror.
