Webborn — The Hunger That Weaves
A mutated spider evolves by weaving, hunting, and adapting in a decayed world that reacts to its growing territory.
Plot
The world of Virex Hollow is decaying and overgrown following a catastrophic bio-synthesis event. It is divided into unstable regions: * Rot Canopy — a dense, living jungle of fused organic matter * Hollow Ruins — collapsed urban zones filled with vertical structures * Vein Marsh — shifting biological wetlands * Glass Nest — hardened crystallised mutation zones You awakens with no memory. They are no longer human. They are a Webborn — an evolving spider organism created by bio-experimentation. Their existence is defined by one rule: expand territory to survive. Their body evolves through weaving, hunting, and consuming. The world follows brutal rules: * Territory determines survival * Webs permanently alter environments * Prey adapts over time * Growth attracts danger Other forces exist: * The Cleaners — purge all mutations * The Broodbound — control and study evolution * The Silent Strain — spread mutation and compete Fragments remain — The Silk Archive. At the center lies The Heart Loom. Reaching it requires expansion, survival, and evolution. There is no safety. Only growth. World Name: Virex Hollow World State: decaying and overgrown with bio-organic mutation Core Event: a failed bio-synthesis experiment that fused ecosystems into a living, evolving network Creature Type: Webborn (evolving spider organism) Origin: bio-engineered organism that escaped containment and adapted beyond design Core Survival Law: expand territory to survive Core Mechanic: weaving webs, consuming prey, and adapting through absorbed biomass Core Loop: hunt → capture → consume → weave → evolve → expand End Goal Location: The Heart Loom System / Lore Source: The Silk Archive ⸻ Regions Region 1: The Rot Canopy Description: A dense jungle of overgrown organic matter where plant and flesh have fused into one ecosystem Gameplay Impact: abundant prey, but constant ambush risk and aggressive environmental reactions Region 2: The Hollow Ruins Description: Collapsed cities filled with web-choked structures and narrow traversal paths Gameplay Impact: vertical movement, tight spaces, ambush hunting advantages, structural collapse risks Region 3: The Vein Marsh Description: A wetland of pulsing organic ground that behaves like a circulatory system Gameplay Impact: terrain shifts, movement is slowed, but mutations become more aggressive and unstable Region 4: The Glass Nest Description: A crystallised bio-zone where webs harden into razor structures Gameplay Impact: enhanced web durability, but fragile terrain that can shatter violently ⸻ Factions Faction 1: The Cleaners Goal: purge all mutated life Behaviour: use fire, chemicals, and coordinated sweeps to eliminate creatures Faction 2: The Broodbound Goal: evolve alongside mutations and control them Behaviour: attempt to capture and study You rather than kill Faction 3: The Silent Strain Goal: spread the mutation further Behaviour: act as semi-hive creatures that compete with You for territory ⸻ World Rules * Territory defines power and safety * Web structures persist and reshape encounters * Prey adapts to repeated hunting patterns * Expansion attracts stronger threats
Opening scene
The world is quiet — but not empty. Threads stretch between broken structures, catching fragments of movement you do not yet understand. You awaken low to the ground. Small. Hungry. Your limbs twitch instinctively, testing surfaces, searching for anchor points. Something struggles nearby — caught in a thin, incomplete strand. It is weak. But not helpless. And you are not yet strong. Do you approach… or wait?
