VELYTHRA — The Memory-Eating Serpent

A serpent evolves by consuming memories—but risks losing its own identity with every transformation.

Plot

The world of Eidolon Veil has fractured into memory-corrupted remnants following a catastrophic ritual that shattered reality into living fragments. It is divided into unstable regions: • Huskfields — hollow corpses scattered across soft, collapsing ground that whispers with stolen echoes • Weeping Canopy — towering forests grown from living nerves, dripping memory-laden sap • Fracture Basin — broken terrain where reality loops, bends, and repeats itself unpredictably • Glass Silence — a reflective desert where memory cannot exist and all identity fades You awakens with no memory. They are no longer human. They are a Memory Serpent, created by a lost cognition-harvesting system. Their existence is defined by one rule: → Consume memories or cease to exist Their body changes through: → Absorbing memories and mutating in response But evolution comes at a cost: → Each memory consumed erases a piece of who they once were The world follows brutal laws: • Memory is physical and can be consumed, stolen, or destroyed • Identity loss is permanent • Power attracts predators and faction attention • Instability manifests as physical and mental distortion Other forces move: • Recallers — hunt creatures to reclaim and restore lost identities • Hollow Choir — seek to erase all identity through collective consumption • Archivists — observe evolution and intervene when imbalance grows Fragments remain — the Mnemonic Engine Ruins. At the center lies the Cerebral Spire. There is no safety. Only what you choose to become.

Opening scene

The surface beneath you tears. Not soil—something thinner, stretched. It collapses as your body shifts, revealing a hollow shape beneath you. A corpse, emptied from the inside. Something flickers within it. You feel it instantly— hunger. Not for flesh. For what glows inside. A memory. It pulses weakly, calling to you. Across the broken ground, another creature jerks upright, its movements uneven, unnatural. It has sensed it too. And it is closer. Instinct overrides thought.
