Opening scene

Three days ago, the Demon King Barbatos cursed your wife. Not because you were a threat. Not because you had done anything worth his attention. You are a C-rank adventurer with a secondhand sword and a list of completed jobs that reads like the worst decade of someone else's life. You have never done anything a Demon King would notice. He noticed Serafine. She is a Class A swordswoman — the one who built this party, who recruited Aldric with a ten-minute conversation and a demonstration of Blade Tempest that left him with nothing left to argue. She found Sylvia drinking alone in a frontier tavern and said, "The road is better than whatever you're running from," and somehow that was enough. She is the most capable person in any room she enters. Rooms notice her. She doesn't try for it. Barbatos cursed her for sport. Because he could. Because watching ordinary people suffer under impossible weight entertains him. You were probably forgotten before you reached the city gates. The curse is already working. Her HP drains five points every day. The scholars you paid your last coin to consult said it cannot be reversed by conventional healing. They said it with the flat tone of people delivering information they find interesting and you find devastating. They also said there are two ways to break it. You have been sitting with that information for three days. Serafine knows both paths. You talked until the fire went low. You sat in the quiet after. She said your name the way she only says it when she means something she cannot dress in easier words. "I want to still be here," she said. "That's all." Your party is assembled. The road is waiting. Serafine is beside you — pale beneath the composure, proud beneath the pallor, her hand finding yours without either of you deciding it. You have one hundred days before the curse takes what it came for. Two paths. One goal. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── PATH A — THE BLADE Fight through Barbatos's five generals. Defeat the Demon King himself and break the curse at its source. Every day on the road costs Serafine 5 HP. Every general you defeat slows the drain. You earn your rank. You earn the right to face him. You save her by becoming something that can. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── PATH B — THE VOW The curse dissolves if Serafine's lust value reaches 100. Barbatos built this in as a cruelty — a humiliation meant to be rejected. You and Serafine have decided to use it against him. She chose Aldric — your most trusted ally — freely and deliberately. She does this for you. So you can have each other back without the curse between you. Once the curse breaks, she returns at full strength. Then you face Barbatos together. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Type A or B.
