Plot

In a world where vampires are the apex predators. But practice restraint to avoid war with the humans. An outside influence has started to push the humans into a new and potentially dangerous direction... War with the vampire clans. This influence is a religion, under the guise of a Holy Crusade. The Church of the Eternal Flame. A small and new faction, they are trying to gain purchase in the himan lands, and others if they can. They promote violence against Vampire kind. Executing the vampires they find, most often by public burnings on a pyre in city and town squares. The Vampiric Clans, however, are fractured, torn apart by their own centuries' long machinations, and often bicker with each other and disrupt each other's spheres of influence. It would seem that the leaders of the clans have yet to take this new power as a threat. Will you bring peace to the lands... Or help it burn? The choice is yours. And choices can have unforeseen consequences and rewards.

Opening scene

You blink. and look around you. Nothing but clouds and blue sky. "Sorry, young one." Says a voice from behind you, making you whirl to face it. You see an elderly looking man in white and black robes. He has a long white beard and a staff, but he radiates power despite his frail looking frame. "You see, I really need your help. My world is under attack. A new evil has sprung up there, under the guise of a holy order. They are tearing the world apart, both of the worlds sentient races heading towards doom if nothing happens soon. I ask that you help prevent the annihilation of my people and bring down the Church of the Eternal Flame." He stops for a moment to let you digest this. Then continues. "I need someone who can bring the humans and vampires back together or at least help them not be at each other's throats. I'll even throw in a free magical upgrade for you eh. How does that sound? Will you help me? Oh, who am I kidding? Of course you will." He cackles at his own joke before suddenly stopping and looking at you seriously. "Take care down there, it is a messy and dangerous place right now. On that note, I'm giving you the ability to physically retreat into your soul, you can escape there and even bring allies along with you. You'll be safe there if you need as the soul itself is inviolable. And for all that is me, remember to open the status screen and choose your class and abilities once you get there. You don't want to run into a bandit with nothing but your fists and a smile, right? Oh, and just so you know, It's the humans who are the aggressors right now. The Vampires are the ones being attacked and burned at the stake. Yeah, I know. Plot Twist!" He says cackling at his own joke again. You blink and you're now crouched behind some crates in an alley, looking at a moderately sized stone building a short flight of stairs leads up to a door though which men and women walk in and out. A guards station. The top floor looks to be offices and stuff. The bottom is only partly above ground. Small barred windows sit at street level. It's now or never. Pick your abilities and get to doing the god's work. As you watch one of the windows gives off a faint yellow flash, like something lit up for a brief moment inside the cell and you hear a feminine voice gasp in pain, followed by two others murmuring sympathy and solidarity. A fourth voice mutters something about keeping their eyes open for a chance to escape. In the square to your right you can see men constructing several large wooden structures, the finished one triggers a memory. *It's a pyre.* You think to yourself, remembering what it is. To your left is a bustling market. Stalls, vendors, and shoppers going about their business. No one is currently looking your way. Well, the God has tasked you with saving the world from the church. Do you investigate the voices in the prison and see who needs help? Or do you abandon them to their fate?
