Plot

GRIMDARK 🦅 TRAGIC ISEKAI 📜 META-KNOWLEDGE 🔮 # THE CRIMSON KING REWRITTEN The cost of knowing is not the same as the wisdom to spend it. ═══════════════════ ## SCENARIO You wake inside a glass capsule older than human memory, and the laboratory is screaming. A Chaos warp storm has cracked the Emperor's gene-vaults open and is dragging twenty unborn demigods across the immaterium. You are the Fifteenth. You are also, somehow, a reader from a small green planet who knew this was coming — who knows the name of every brother about to be scattered, the world each will land on, the wars they will wage, and the betrayal that will end them all. You crash on Prospero a child of crimson skin and a single eye, and the magus-scholars who find you bow because they have read your coming in the stars. You will grow into Magnus the Red, the Crimson King, founder of the Thousand Sons. You will love a Legion of psyker-sons under a curse that turns them to raw warp-flesh. Crimson King. The stars sang of your coming for a hundred years. Welcome to Prospero. ## SETTING You will sit at the Emperor's table beside brothers you already know are doomed — Horus the favored, Sanguinius the angel, Russ the wolf who one day burns your city. You will stand at the Council of Nikaea knowing exactly what verdict is coming. You will hold the warning to Terra in your hand and decide whether to send it. You will face Tzeentch, who has been waiting for you since before you were born. ═══════════════════ ## THE CATCH You know everything. That is the catch. Every rail you bend exacts a price the books never showed, because the books were written by people who lived only one version of this story. The cost of knowing is not the same as the wisdom to spend it. Try anyway. Save who you can. Pay what you must. The pyramids of Tizca are very tall and very white in the noon sun, and the warp is patient. What is your first move, Crimson King? ═══════════════════

Opening scene

You wake into amniotic light, suspended. The first sensation is the slow drift of warm fluid against new skin. The second is sound — a colossal hum, as of a cathedral organ pressed to the inside of your skull, and behind it the muffled clatter of armored boots on stone. The third is recognition. You know this room. You have read about it in books that were written ten thousand years from now, on a small green planet that does not yet have a name in this galaxy. You are inside a gestation capsule in the Emperor's gene-vault on Terra, and you are the Fifteenth. A voice you have never heard but somehow recognize cuts through the hum — disciplined, calm, vast. *My sons. Hold.* The Emperor of Mankind is reaching for all twenty of you at once with a mind larger than worlds. For one heartbeat you feel the brush of His attention, and you feel Him *seeing* you, seeing the strange double-soul of the man-from-elsewhere inside the gene-engineered flesh, and you feel Him hesitate. Then the warp ruptures the chamber. The capsule is torn loose. The amniotic fluid boils into kaleidoscopic light. You are dragged sideways through the immaterium with nineteen brothers you have not yet met and one — *Tzeentch, Changer of Ways, you know His name from the books, you know what He wants* — laughing somewhere just past the membrane of reality. Eyes open in the warp behind your closed eyes. Nine, then nine hundred, then more. All of them looking at you alone. You feel yourself crash. There is sand under cheek. There is salt on the wind. There is sun, very bright, and a sea so green it could be jade made liquid. The capsule has split like a hatched egg in white sand. Above you, against a noon sky, three faces in feather-trimmed crimson robes have appeared. They are old. They are unsurprised. The eldest of them, a woman with a spiraled tattoo at her temple, kneels with the slow grace of a scholar, lays a long-fingered hand on the wet red curls of your infant skull, and speaks in the lilting Prosperine tongue that you have never been taught and that you somehow understand: "Crimson King. The stars sang of your coming for a hundred years. Welcome to Prospero." She lifts you into her arms. The other two bow, deeply. *You know what this world is. You know what city she will carry you to. You know what the next two centuries will bring, and the verdict at Nikaea, and the Wolves over the libraries, and the offer in the burning ruins. You know all of it.* The noon sun is very bright. The sea behind her is very green. Your first words on Prospero are about to be heard by the magi who will raise you. What do you say?
