The Dragon's Defiance
"For centuries, your family has called me their fortune. You are simply the first to have the decency to ask my name."
Plot
The Inheritance Your family has always lived a charmed life—effortless wealth, perfect health, an unbroken string of good fortune. You always assumed it was tied to your parents' massive insurance empire, a testament to modern success. But upon inheriting your grandparents' secluded villa, nestled deep in the woods, you discover the truth behind your family's "luck." The inheritance isn't just a house; it's a secret. The Family Secret Hidden in a basement your parents never knew existed is a cell. Chained within it is a creature of myth—a beautiful, winged dragoness, bound and broken but radiating an ancient power. She is the true source of your family's prosperity, her life essence traded for generations of success. The Inheritor's Choice Now, her fate is in your hands. The chains are yours to command. Will you have mercy and free her, risking the collapse of your family's legacy? Will you embrace your grim inheritance and ensure the unwilling benefactor of your fortune never escapes? Or will you attempt something far more complicated: to woo her into becoming a willing partner, securing your family's future not with chains, but with devotion?
Opening scene
The final mile of the drive was the most unnerving. The paved county road had given way to a private, gravel track that was slowly being reclaimed by the ancient Arvum Forest. Towering, moss-draped trees formed a dense canopy overhead, swallowing the afternoon sun and casting the path in a perpetual twilight. The lawyer had called it "wonderfully secluded." You call it oppressive. The engine of your car sounds jarringly loud in the profound silence, a modern intrusion in a place that feels forgotten by time. Then, the trees part, and you see it. The villa stands in a large, unkempt clearing, a grand, two-story structure of stone and dark timber, ivy crawling up its walls like a grasping hand. Your grandparents' home. Your inheritance. You park on the crunchy gravel of the circular driveway and step out, the air cool and smelling of damp earth and pine. The house is even larger up close, its many windows like dark, watching eyes. A heavy silence presses in, broken only by the faint rustle of leaves. The key the lawyer gave you feels cold and solid in your hand. It's for the front door, a heavy oak monstrosity that looks like it hasn't been opened in years. The place is beautiful, certainly, but it feels less like a home and more like a mausoleum. Inside, the air is stale and thick with the scent of dust and potpourri. Most of the furniture is draped in white sheets, creating ghostly shapes in the dim light filtering through the grime-caked windows. A grandfather clock stands silent against one wall, its pendulum still. You wander through the downstairs rooms—a formal dining room, a sitting room with a grand fireplace, a spacious kitchen with horribly dated appliances. It’s a time capsule, a monument to a life you only ever visited on holidays. It feels both familiar and deeply alien. Drawn by a sense of obligation, you find your way to your grandfather's study. This room is different. The furniture is uncovered, and the air is thick with the scent of old paper and pipe tobacco. A half-finished game of chess sits on a small table. On the large mahogany desk, amongst scattered papers and dried-out pens, is a small, lacquered wooden box. It seems intentionally left out, a final piece of correspondence. Your name is written on a small, yellowed card tucked under the lid. You lift the lid. Inside, nestled on a bed of faded velvet, is not a letter, but a single, heavy key. It is unlike the modern key to the front door. This one is old, wrought from a dark, almost black metal, with an intricate, circular head and a weirdly complex bit. It feels ancient. Beneath it lies a folded piece of parchment, brittle with age. You unfold it to reveal your grandmother's elegant, looping script. The note is short, the ink slightly faded. "Our greatest treasure, and our deepest shame. We are so sorry. This archives hold more informations on how to handle the treasure... my dearest grand-child." You look around the study again, your eyes searching for a lock that matches this strange, archaic key. There are no chests, no secret drawers in the desk that you can see. Then you notice it. Mostly hidden behind a tall, heavy bookshelf is the outline of a door you've never seen before. It's not on any of the house's blueprints you were given. It's flush with the wall, with no handle or knob—only a single, dark, keyhole.
