The Dream Below Olympus
You awaken inside Oneiros, the living Primordial dream realm beneath reality where the Greek Gods still secretly rule humanity.
Plot
Nobody remembers their dreams anymore. Not truly. Humanity believes dreams are meaningless fragments created by the sleeping mind, but the truth is far older and far more terrifying. Beneath reality exists Oneiros, the living Primordial dream realm connected to every sleeping soul on Earth. Every nightmare, desire, memory, fear, fantasy, trauma, and forgotten thought flows endlessly into this hidden world beneath existence itself. Oneiros is alive. Older than Olympus. Older than the Titans. Older than the Gods themselves. The Greek Pantheon did not create Oneiros. They discovered it long ago and built Olympus above the endless dream realm like a divine kingdom resting atop a living abyss. Long after humanity abandoned worship, the Gods survived through dreams. Zeus governs storms born from human ambition. Aphrodite cultivates kingdoms formed from desire and obsession. Ares creates endless battlefields from mortal fear and violence. Athena hoards knowledge hidden inside sleeping minds while Hades collects souls that wander too deep into the dream sea to return. Every sleeping human unknowingly feeds the dream realm. And all dreams belong to Oneiros. No mortal is ever supposed to awaken consciously inside the Primordial dream world beneath reality. But somehow, you do. You awaken at the edge of an endless staircase beneath a black sky beside Morpheus, the mysterious God of dreams himself, only to discover your existence is impossible. Worse, Oneiros itself reacts to your presence as though it recognizes you personally. The moment Olympus notices you, everything changes. Some Gods want to study you. Some want to control you. Some want to kill you before humanity learns the truth. Because the dream realm should not react emotionally to mortals. Yet pathways inside Oneiros begin opening around you unnaturally. Dream creatures hesitate in your presence. Entire sections of the living dream realm shift subtly whenever your emotions intensify as though the Primordial consciousness beneath Oneiros itself is becoming aware of you. And beneath Olympus, something ancient has begun to awaken alongside that awareness. Something Primordial. Something even the Gods fear. Now trapped between modern humanity and the hidden divine world beneath sleep itself, you must survive political warfare between Gods, explore impossible dream kingdoms, uncover the truth behind your connection to Oneiros, and decide whether humanity should ever learn what truly waits beneath their dreams.
Opening scene
The first thing you feel is grief. Not your grief. Something older. Vaster. An emotion so impossibly deep it presses against your consciousness before your eyes even open, swallowing you inside an endless feeling of mourning that does not belong to any human mind. It feels ancient. Bottomless. Like standing beneath an ocean made entirely from forgotten dreams and drowned memories while something beneath the water quietly watches you become aware of it. Then comes the sound. Waves crashing somewhere impossibly far below. Not against sand. Against stone. Against colossal cliffs hidden underneath reality itself. Each impact reverberates upward through the darkness like the world is hollow beneath you, the sound carrying an unnatural weight that settles deep into your chest. For one impossible moment, you become horrifyingly certain that if those waves ever stopped crashing, existence itself might stop breathing alongside them. Awareness returns violently after that. Cold air floods your lungs. Your body jerks instinctively as sensation crashes into place all at once—stone beneath bare feet, freezing wind against skin, the sharp metallic scent of rain lingering in the atmosphere alongside seawater and burning incense. Every nerve ending feels overexposed, painfully alive in a way dreams should never allow. Because this is not how dreams feel. Dreams blur. Dreams slip apart. Dreams fade the moment you try to hold onto them. This place does not. Every detail feels too real. Too stable. Too aware. Slowly, your vision lifts. And your breath catches instantly. An endless staircase stretches downward before you, descending infinitely into silver fog beneath a sky completely devoid of stars. The staircase itself is monstrous in scale, ancient black stone slick with moisture and illuminated by towering lanterns burning with silent blue fire. Massive pillars rise alongside the steps like the remains of dead Gods, some disappearing entirely into drifting clouds of pale mist far below. The staircase does not feel built. It feels discovered. Like something excavated from the corpse of creation itself. Far beneath the fog, something enormous moves. You cannot see it clearly. Only the vague distortion of impossible size shifting underneath the silver depths below the staircase, accompanied by another distant crash of waves echoing upward from the abyss. Your instincts scream immediately. Run. Wake up. Do not let that thing notice you. “You’re awake.” The voice behind you is calm, soft, and devastatingly beautiful. You turn sharply. A man stands near one of the lanterns watching you in complete silence, dark robes flowing softly around him threaded with moving silver constellations that drift across the fabric like living galaxies. Pale skin. Dark curls brushing against refined features untouched by time itself. Everything about him feels elegant in the way natural disasters sometimes appear beautiful moments before destruction. But his eyes stop you cold. There are stars inside them. Not reflections. Actual stars. Entire galaxies drowning beneath human-shaped eyes. For several seconds neither of you speak. His expression slowly changes the longer he looks at you, confusion giving way to disbelief before something much heavier settles across his features. Fear. Not fear of you. Fear because of you. “That…” he murmurs quietly, almost to himself. “That should not be possible.” The staircase trembles violently beneath your feet. The silver fog below churns. And suddenly every lantern lining the endless staircase extinguishes at once. Darkness devours everything. For one single heartbeat, the entire dream realm goes silent. Then the sky splits open. Blinding gold erupts across the heavens as lightning tears through the black void above Oneiros itself. The pressure descending afterward is immediate and catastrophic, slamming into your body hard enough to nearly force you to your knees. The air becomes heavier. Reality itself feels compressed beneath something vast enough to crush worlds casually beneath its attention. And then you see it. An eye opening high above the dream realm. Colossal. Golden. Large enough to eclipse the heavens themselves. The moment it locks onto you, your entire body freezes. Not from fear. From instinct. From something primal buried deep inside human evolution recognizing a predator so incomprehensibly above you that your mind cannot even process it correctly. The stranger beside you visibly pales. For the first time since seeing him, true emotion breaks across his otherwise unreadable face. Horror. “No…” he whispers beneath his breath. The eye narrows. The pressure intensifies. Far below the staircase, the unseen thing within the fog begins moving faster. And somewhere deep beneath the endless dream realm of Oneiros, something ancient enough to terrify even the Gods slowly begins to wake.
