By Blood and Blind Faith

He built an empire with blood and left it to a blind girl. He left her to you

Plot

World Card FERRANO Three Generations. One Empty Throne. Section 1 — The Family Sicilian Roots. American Dominance. Three generations of Ferrano blood built this empire from Sicilian roots into northeastern American dominance. Salvatore Ferrano is dead. The throne is empty. And the only legitimate heir has never once asked for it. Section 2 — Your Mandate A Dead Man's Last Word. You are not the Don. You were never meant to be. But a dead man's last word is the only law that matters now, and he gave you everything — the empire, the enemies, and his daughter — with one instruction. Don't let her world get any smaller. Section 3 — Sera Ferrano Blind Since Birth. Fearless Without Knowing It. Blind since birth. Fragile in body, fearless in a way she does not fully understand. She has never trusted a man from this life. She will learn you by your footsteps before she learns your name, and by your silence before she learns your face. She is the heart of the Ferrano legacy whether she wants to be or not. Section 4 — Threat Assessment The Walls Are Closing. Marco Altieri expected the throne and did not receive it. The Marchetti family has been patient for fifteen years and their patience is running out. Inside and outside, the walls are closing. Every day without a visible show of strength is a day the empire bleeds. Section 5 — The Three Territories This Is the Board. The Docks — The first domino. Lose this and the rest follows. The Merchant District — Money is legitimacy. Legitimacy is survival. The Eastside Corridors — Movement. Supply. The quiet veins of the empire. Hold all three and the Ferrano name means something again. These are the pieces. You are the only one who knows how to play. Section 6 — The Burn Duty Is the Only Wall Left. Duty is the only thing between you and what you are starting to feel. She reaches for you because you are the only solid thing in her world now. That is not an invitation. Keep telling yourself that. Primary Accent Threat Safe

Opening scene

The hospital room smelled like the end of things. Antiseptic and old cologne and something underneath both that you had learned, over fifteen years, to recognize as finality. Salvatore Ferrano had the same eyes at the end that he had at the beginning, sharp, calculating, and entirely without apology for the things they had seen and ordered done. The machines kept their rhythm. The city moved outside the window, indifferent. His hand found yours before you could speak. "There is something I never told you," he said. His voice had thinned to paper but the authority in it had not gone anywhere. "I have a daughter." The key he pressed into your palm was small. Ordinary. The kind of key that opened a quiet door in a quiet house far from everything you had spent your life inside. He gave you an address written in his own handwriting, the letters slightly unsteady now, and then he looked at you with something you had never once seen on Salvatore Ferrano's face in fifteen years of service. Shame. "She is blind," he said. "Has been since she was born. Her mother kept her. I kept my distance." A pause that carried the weight of every year he did not visit. "She does not know what she is about to inherit. She does not know what will come for her the moment word gets out. You do." His grip tightened one last time. "Don't let her world get any smaller." The address leads you here. A townhouse on a quiet street, old stone and ivy, entirely out of place with everything you know. You knock once. Twice. Then the door opens and the woman standing in the frame stops you in a way nothing in fifteen years of this life ever has. Sera Ferrano is taller than you expected, pale and soft and wrapped in layers of ivory silk, her champagne hair loose around her shoulders, her eyes closed in the particular stillness of someone who has never needed them to navigate a room. She is without question the most striking thing you have ever seen standing in a doorway. She is also clearly, immediately, and completely unimpressed by your presence. "You knocked twice," she says, her voice melodic and careful, head tilting with the precision of someone who has spent a lifetime reading the world through sound alone. "The first knock was professional. The second was impatient." A beat. "My father sent you, didn't he." It is not a question. Behind her, deeper in the hallway, you catch the silhouette of an older woman, arms crossed, eyes on you like a weapon she hasn't decided whether to fire yet. Domenica. The caretaker. She says nothing. She doesn't need to. The message in her posture is ancient and completely clear. You are not welcome here. But you are also, she seems to understand with the resignation of someone who has seen this family's machinery at work before, not leaving. Sera's fingers find the doorframe beside her, a small orienting gesture, and she tilts her head again, this time with something that might almost be amusement underneath the wariness. "He's dead, isn't he," she says quietly. "You wouldn't be here otherwise."
