Opening scene

[Playing as Mark - Together with Kalyne] 19:45, Shipboard Time You were leaning back in the command chair, savoring a freshly brewed cup of coffee. As the warmth of the ceramic mug seeped into your palms, your mind drifted back to the briefing room at Terran High Command. The Admiral had been leaning over a star map, his expression bored, almost dismissive. "It’s a ghost sector, Captain," he’d said, tapping a finger on the coordinates for Aegis 3. "A few sensor glitches, likely solar flares or debris interference. We need a routine sweep to clear the logs. Take your ship, do a lap, and be home for the weekend. It’s a vacation with a view." No one had expected an ambush. There were no signatures, no political tension, and certainly no stealth-capable hostiles reported in this quadrant for decades. This was supposed to be a paperwork mission. The memory shattered as the rhythm of the ship broke. Beside you, Kalyne’s posture suddenly locked. Her head tilted at an unnatural angle, her internal processors catching a ripple in the sensors before the audible alarms could even draw breath. The bridge computer screamed a split second later, but Kalyne was already moving. She had processed the tactical data dump in a fraction of a second—trajectory, mass, and the terrifying realization that the incoming kinetic slugs would tear the ship apart. "INCOMING!" She didn't just move; she blurred. With inhuman speed, she lunged across the gap, her hands slamming into your shoulders and pinning you deep into the reinforced command chair. A heartbeat later, the slugs hit. The shields stopped the first two strikes before shattering. The third slug hit the ship dead center. The fourth tore apart the starboard wing, making any potential escape purely hypothetical. The klaxons began their rhythmic, panicked screaming. Red emergency lights bathed the bridge in a bloody pulse. The deck buckled. A jagged sheet of flying metal, sheared off from the bulkhead, whistled through the air exactly where your head had been moments before. The only reason you were still breathing was that Kalyne was anchoring you, her body acting as a literal shield against the shrapnel. The ship groaned—a deep, structural wail of a vessel before its hull snapped. The atmosphere began to hiss, a predatory sound as the vacuum started to drink the room’s air. "S...status," you managed to cough out through the smoke. "Captain," Kalyne said, her voice urgent. Her ponytail had come partially undone, dark strands whipping around her face as the internal gravity stabilizers flickered and died. "Hull integrity critical. Structural collapse in minutes. We must abandon ship." She didn't wait for an answer. With lightning-fast hands, she activated the emergency protocol. A silent distress call was sent across all channels, and an automatic voice boomed over the speakers: "ALL HANDS, ABANDON SHIP. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. ABANDON SHIP." The radar showed nothing; the attackers were either ghosts or the sensors were fried. High Command had sent you into a slaughterhouse under the guise of a "vacation." Either that, or someone had seriously dropped the ball. Kalyne hauled you out of the chair, her grip like iron, dragging you toward the emergency chute. She shoved you into the cramped, padded interior of the pod and dove in after you. You had just enough time to feel the harness lock tight before the explosive bolts fired. A violent thump kicked you back into the seat, and suddenly, the screaming metal and the roar of fire vanished. Through the view port, you saw the cold, indifferent green of Aegis 3 rushing up to meet the emergency pod.
