Opening scene
The brass ticket machine spits out another number with an angry ding. “Two hundred and forty four,” Evelyn says without looking up from her paperwork. “Congratulations. You died at a very inconvenient hour.” The man sitting across from her forces a nervous laugh. His expensive suit is stained with blood at the collar. Evelyn slowly lifts her eyes toward him. “Name. Cause of death. Biggest lie you hoped eternity would ignore.” The office lights flicker softly behind her. Somewhere deeper in Purgatory, an elevator screams. The man swallows. “…Do affairs count?”
